I liked the thumbs up Powell gave Bush. What bothered me was the lack of applause during his speech, by those at the UN is this how they do things at those meetings?

To inflame ethnic hatred is to advance the cause of terror.

Now who would do such a thing?

An excellent speech, although why Bush gave it to yet another terrorist organization is beyond me.

Maybe, he is trying to change the world.

And a murderer is not a martyr, he is just a murder.

Those who believe the terrorists "were not cowards" need to pay attention to this: murderers are never courageous. Murderers might shock us with their evil, with the brazenness of their acts, but they are still cowards.

Yes, because each person is listening to the speech simultaniously translated into their own language. Since the pace of the translations differ, any response would be out of time with the words being spoken by the speaker.

I don't think they usually clap much during a UN speech until the end. He has to deliver it more slowly so the translators can get it right. So, I think it is because of this, that not much clapping occurs during the speech itself.

This is BUSINESS - not a pep rally.

Thanks for the flag. I watched the speech this morning. This was excellent, and although SOME people apparently didn't get it, I am sure those in the audience realize that President Bush is not messing around. This was his best yet!

We must speak the truth about terror. Let us never tolerate outrageous conspiracy theories concerning the attacks of September the 11th, malicious lies that attempt to shift the blame away from the terrorists themselves, away from the guilty. To inflame ethnic hatred is to advance the cause of terror.

And finally, this struggle is a defining moment for the United Nations itself. And the world needs its principled leadership. It undermines the credibility of this great institution, for example, when the Commission on Human Rights offers seats to the world's most persistent violators of human rights. The United Nations depends above all on its moral authority and that authority must be preserved.

Great speech. I am so thankful he put Clinton in his place and told the UN they cannot keep squandering their opportunity to lead. Way to go "W". Thank you for being my President. No, he's not perfect but he does have the moral fortitude to lead. My prayer for him is to keep his eyes on the prize and not get distracted.

Every civilized nation here today is resolved to keep the most basic commitment of civilization. We will defend ourselves and our future against terror and lawless violence.

I wonder the exact number of countries felt insulted by that statement? Right at the outset....

[So, why don't you tell us what he said]

Excuse me, I was assuming that everyone here could read a transcript. Unless we're to discount what's written there, everything he said appears in the transcript heading this thread.

Haven't caught the whole speech yet, just the last ten minutes. What I have seen, I didn't like. Two months ago, America was attacked by the worse single terrorist act ever leveled against any nation in world history. It's clear from a mere ten minutes of viewing the President's speech, that the the UN and it's members should be removed from US soil forever! The UN is in NYCity and the attacks of 9-11 took place in NYCity. Don't these foreigners realize the next attacks could be northest of the WTC area and aimed right at the UN building? What utter foolishness. The tepid applause President Bush received is more clear indication, that too many member nations of the UN want no part of this war on international terrorism. So be it.

You're either with us, or with the terrorists.

President Bush made a huge mistake by paying America's back dues to the UN. At least 10% of UN members are outright enemies of America, while another 25% basically hate the US. So many other nations are driven by irrational emotions and are filled with envy and jealousy towards America, they can't see straight.

The UN has dramatically changed in the last 50 years and most of those changes haven't been for the betterment of mankind. The fact that half it's current members are anti-American, should infuriate our elected leaders and force them to kick the UN out of the USA. They don't have any rights here and should be given NO support whatsoever. Let them move to France, Norway, or Swedan. Let those countries deal with these shameless cowardly bastards who don't have the cojones to stand up to the terrorists who committed those heinous acts in NYCity on 9-11.

And the sooner the better!

THIS was a great speech! I didn't catch it on TV, but reading the transcript here puts this one way at the top. He minced no words... his meaning was clear and unambiguous. He put History on notice that WE, the United States, will act on priciple and do RIGHT with our MIGHT.

Personally, I think this speech is one for the ages...

I like this particular statement...

Whack!

Bush was downright confrontational when he mentioned the Commission on Human 'Rights'. The Sudan Selection was a big mistake. Bush, by this speech, is challenging them. They either capitulate their Sudan Selection, or conservatives in the US will start burning UN flags.

I think Bush is giving conservative leaders a green light to move against the UN.
