I toured the Dome of the Rock in 1974. Was required to remove my shoes (but not my socks) to enter.

My socks had not been washed for three days. Hope the smell still remains to this day!

You really should go see it again. Next time put a couple of pork chops in your shoes as "odor eaters" before you set out touring...

Well good doctor, I was deathly sick on a hotel bed in Jerusalem the day my tour group went to the Dome of the Rock(1980, new wave/punk had just become popular where I was from). We had eaten at an outside cafe in Haifa. They were little meat balls on skewers, and probably some rice or something. I thought they were really good at the time. Come Friday evening, I was, well let's say I was dehydrating through various means. By Saturday, local arabs working the hotel, had acquired Sulfa guanadine to kill whatever little bug was inside me. Everyone else went to the dome. Sorry I missed. Going to Israel was one of my fondest memories. I will always support Israel, but I think people should know there are many, many Christian Arabs who are totally forgotten in the shuffle of things.
