bump for consideration.

I believe that the United States and Israel, each country for its own reasons and it its own way, are flagships of the western civilization and both countries are under attack for that reason.
However, I agree with the author: the supporters of Isreal need to make the case for themselves, be it a civilizational argument along the lines that I presented, or some other argument.

Here is an interesting article that substantiates the assertion of common destiny of us and Israel, that I just made in the post above. The article takes a broader view on conflicts between civilizations on different stages of development, but many concrete examples there are about Israel and its predicament.

Former Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu says that Arabs hate Israel because of the United States, and not vice versa!
This is absolutley NUTZ. Have we entered the Twilight Zone?
To: annalex
Can you give me even two reasons why you think Israel is a "flagship"?
(They have been at war with their neighbors for 60 years or so and they are the largest ever recipients of Foreign Aid in modern history. What's Flagship about that?)
To: Patria One
If the Arabs didn't have Israel to kick around, they'd focus totally on the U.S., and you are all naive if you don't believe that.

Joe is right...again. But, he has been falsely accused many times of being an anti---, anti-S----, oh, don't say it, you can't say it, it's the worst thing anyone can be called. OK we won't say it.
the most abused bogus excuse for lack of objective dialogue is this term. And I won't say it, because it often means nothing more than intimidating someone into shutting their mouth and foresaking the truth.

1. The only country in the Middle East that is run democratically.
2. Judaism, as a religion based on the Old Testament, is at the foundation of the Western culture.

Israel hardly passes for a democracy, but I don't one way or another if they are, or are not a democracy.
Why do you feel the need to reform the government of people living half way around the world?
To: lucretius
Bin Laden hates his fellow Arabs as much as the USA. He cares not a bit for the Palestinians bastards, nor do you. Bin Laden hates the west, and you hate the Jews. So go suck your thumb.

But our nation will never do the right thing because it is controlled by Jewish interests.FreeRepublic too, BWAHAHA!
Lousy debut, lucretius.

To: ouroboros
'canard' is Yiddish for "a truth which shall not be spoken". Or at least that's what I infer from its usage.

It's always funny to watch reactions to Sobran. The Amen Corner proves his points every time!
To: Patria One
Israel hardly passes for a democracy Israel has competitive elections that on a number of occasions changed the course of that country.
Why do you feel the need to reform the government of people living half way around the world?
I don't feel such need in general. When the Western civilization to which I belong is attacked by bastards I would like the government where the bastards live to punish them as criminals and preempt future attacks; when a cooperation from those governments is not forthcoming, I wish to change them.
