This COULD be the biggest, most controversial debate of Operation Enduring Freedom: How do you pronounce this word:
NUCLEAR
Is it "NOOK-lee-er" or "NUK-lee-er"? Just wondering. :)

Rhymes with "spook".

It is correctly pronounced NEW CLEAR.
Used to drive me crazy when Jimmy Carter, who was allegedly a Nuclear Physicist used to pronounce the work NOOK U LEAR.
You have the word from the authority. Me
Now go forth and enunciate!

Depends on where you are. If you're in Afghanistan, it's pronounce thusly:
"Oh, sh*t!"

As in "glows in the dark foor a long long time" spook!
"They're scary and they're spoooky...."
They're way too bright to loooky..."
They'll make you glow they're noookie..."
They're our Noook-lee-er fam-il-leeeee!"

The correct pronunciation is:
Nu-cle-ar (three syllables).
A perpetually mispronounced word, like unto:
Re-al-tor (not "real-a-tor").
In-te-gral (not "in-tri-cal," which is not a product pushed by Paul Harvey but rather a mistaken cross between "integral" and "intricate").

Jimmy Carter did not pronounce it "noo-u-lear" or "nucular." He pronounced it "nookyar." But the current Congress and Executive Branch are full of people who say "nucular." They should all be rounded up and given a full-day seminar to be drilled in the proper pronunciation.

Jimmy Carter! Wasn't he some sort of nukeyaller fississist or sompin?
To: Charles Henrickson
Re-al-tor (not "real-a-tor").And then there's "jew-ler-y" instead of jewelry (jool-ry).
The anti-semites really love that one.

Correction:
I think J.C. pronounced it nookyilla.

Both are wrong.
As Homer points out:
"No, No, Its Nuke-yu-lar"

You can use the code words B61-11 instead. Works for me.

Pronounce the ultimate weapon? Don't know, but it's spelled PMS.
To: Recovering_Democrat
If it were Nook then I suppose that Paul Newman played in a movie called "Cool Hand Look"
