Major EBook Publisher Endorses FReeper Jeff Head's Novel (Thread II)
Dragon's Fury - Breath of Fire ^ | November 2, 2001 | Christopher Durkin

My good friend and Free Republic regular Jeff Head spoke with me on the phone this afternoon with the great news that POCKETPCPRESS, a major publisher of electronic books, has expressed strong interest in Jeff's recently completed work of fiction:

Breath of Fire

Which is a tale of the coming third world war. Mr. Doug Clapp of PocketPCpress wrote in his endorsement on Jeff's website:

"My company, PocketPCpress, gets to see a ton of novel submissions. Most are truly terrible...which is sad. We wish it weren't so.

We recently had the good fortune to read Dragon's Fury-Breath of Fire by Jeff Head and -- for the first time in a long, long while -- we were absolutely knocked out.

Don't be mislead by the fact that -- for now -- this is a self-published book offered only on the author's website. I'm sure this won't be the case for long. This is an amazingly accomplished, professional, techno-thriller that will make you turn page after page after page -- and enjoy every minute of it.

I could go on about plotting and characterization and all that, but I won't. This is simply a hellava great read and "right on" about what's happening in the world today. Tom Clancy now has some serious, serious competition."

Doug Clapp

PocketPCpress

Jeff went on to mention that Mr. Clapp has also put him in contact with a New York literary agent who has requested expedited delivery of a complete hard copy manuscript in anticipation of possible print publication. For those of you who may not have seen the initial announcement, excerpts from Jeff's book Breath of Fire can be found here.

This is a most noteworthy and laudable achievement and a source of pride for all of us here. It is also even further evidence that Free Republic is the beacon of American liberty which both attracts and stimulates the brightest minds to be found on the net or anywhere. Congratulations to you, Jeff !

Well ... understand that the "1st printing" is my own doing ... meaning it was not very big at all ... just what I could personally afford. Now, with the current orders, I will go off and order a few more ... and so forth.

Perhaps, over time, the momentum will build on its own. That's what I am going to continue trying to help. If, in the mean time, one of these large publishers picks up on it ... well, that would be like a dream.

Regards.

GREAT!

I'll see the order when I get back on Monday. Thank you and I hope you find the read enjoyable and engrossing. I honestly think you will.

These initial orders should be filled by the end of next week or early the following, just depending on how first these first books get to me.

Regards.

It does look good! I have it with me and it is constantly amazing that it's actually there and looks so good.

I honestly believe if these printed books were in book stores, that they would sell boatloads of them. The cover art and all really turned out well.

I hope to reach a point soon where I can place an order for books to be used in a marketing campaign specifically to independently owned book stores in this fashion. Kind of one for display where orders can be placed, 1st by patrons, and then by the bookstore themselves as they see the interest.

Quite frankly, I think if I carry one into the bookstore, many of those stores will place and initial order of 6-12 based on seeing the book as is.

I will test this thesis in the Boise area next week.

Have had a GREAT day ith the grandson, daughter, son-in-law and Jared. Expect more of the same tomorrow before heading back home.

Your words regarding the ultimate outcome are true and I look forward to their realization, whatever side of the veil I view it from.

I hope to take my book to some bookstores in the Boise area nect week and see if I can get orders for those independent stores.

Regards and Go'ds best to you and yours.

Glad you and Jared made it safe and sound, amigo. Also glad to have a new member of the extended patriot family born to the Head clan. I'm sure "Grandpa" Jeff (I LOVE that!) will have an involved hand in that little man's life, and he'll be the better for it.

Told the wife about plans to come up that way in January, and she's good with it. Just need to nail down the time frame. We'll talk more a little later, bro.

Stay well!

Hey Bob - glad you found my message & I'm certain Jeff conveyed greetings too. Been a bit tied up with my Dad's hospitalization. He's a tough old Marine. Working on this book with Jeff has been quite a remarkable experience and I'm sure that the rewards for his efforts will follow.

Hope that life in Colorado is well for you and your family too.

Got home safe and sound about 2 AM this morning. We drove back the northern route and stopped in Bozeman, MT to visit my number two duaghter who is working and going to school there ... and show her pictures of her nephew.

Already missin' that little critter.

Daughter, son-in-law and grandson are coming out at Christmas though, so we'll try and prepare a proper Idaho welcome at that time.

Will post pics within a few days.

I'm going to have to order more books this week. I only have nine left now out of the first order which will be coming in late this week (hopefully).

Thanks for the BUMP bro ... sorry I'm a little late getting back at you ... but just drove right at 4000 miles in 5 1/2 days ... spending a day and a half on the ground in Indiana. It was well worth it.

Hope you can get one of these books real soon! I know you're going to like the read.

Regards.

Glad to see you're home safe and sound, amigo.

Traded messages with our buddy down in El Paso about the possibility of him joining me on a trip to see you in January. He's trying to figure out if his schedule will allow for it.

Looking forward to the pics of the grandson!

Will try and have those pics up sometime tomorrow.

I'll include the one of you and me at the stop in Cheyenne if you don't mind.

Regarding the book, I got a request for another manuscript on the west coast today. Will be FedEx'ing it tomorrow.

Regards.

Glad both of You made it home SAFE.

I believe I know You well enough to know that no time was wasted and every minute counted.

Some how I feel other people's pain, but on this I feel Your Joy, I'm happy for you.

I'm having trouble finding time for visiting my family. My job situation is easy, I work I get paid, I don't work I don't get paid, pretty good money but slim bennies. I would love to bring my family out for a visit, but I know in the back of my mind we won't meet in Idaho, but I will see You......

Peace

I know exactly what you mean. The same has held for me since I went off on my own, first into our small "mom and pop" business in Montana, than as an engineering consultant and now with this book.

That's why our trip was such a "flying" trip. Left Thursday late in the day and was back Tuesday morning at 2:30 AM after traveling right at 4000 miles ... with a day and a half stop in Indiana ... but it was sure worth it and I was sure glad to have Jared along. He's a good co-pilot and a fine young man. he teaches his Dad a lot about patience and staying even tempered.

God bless.

Here's a BUMP to you regarding the book. Given your stance regarding India (ie. doing business with a Republic that has the huge market potential rather than a communist nation) I believe you would enjoy it.

After my visits to India as a consultant, I agree whole heartedly with that stance.

In addition, if you can see this on your "self search" at FR, it more than likely means that your current status is only temporary.

Best regards.

Here's the review and endorsement I got. Several potential agents and publishers are now reviewing the manuscript as a result of this individual's help.
