It's interesting to note that the woman who played a Jew on TV and ISN'T Jewish lost to the one who played a non-Jew on TV but IS Jewish. What a country, America.

"I would not get all enthusiastic about a conservative rebirth" I agree. This is far from that... but, for the lieberals in Hollywood, this is a disaster! LOL. Gilbert is waaay too conservative for them.... so, I gloat. Heheh

Politics?....Democrat I knew it.
If she said anything else, she would be on the Hollywood blacklist and her name (and career) would be mud. You gotta be BIG in Hollywood to admit being a conservative (or not care).

Mellisa also had a role on Babylon 5 - she played Captain Sheridan's long lost wife. I would submit that alot of underemployed actors in Hollywood will list their party affiliation as Democrat just as a strictly business move. To be an open Republican in Hollywood either means you have made it (Ahnold) or consider politics more important than feeding your family or are just very brave (rick schroeder whose release from NYPD Blue was never fully explained is an example).

Thanks, JW, you can stalk me too.At this rate, you may become the first FReeper to need a Ping-List for your stalkers.

This is good because Valerie Harper is an Extreme Liberal.

Thanks! I was just about to make a comment about
THIS too...........after scolling back to the beginning of the thread with her picture, she was looking somehow more and more familiar to me! I was saying to myself, "Where have I seen THAT face recently"?
B5 was one the best Sci-Fi programs of the 90's! They are rerunning it and are currently somewhere in Season #2.

Yeah!! Was Bugs Bunny even nominated??? What about the greatest cat of all...Garfield??? Garfeild would have probably supported Harper as he was also Carlton the Doorman on her show "Rhoda". The voice of both was played by actor Lorenzo Music who died on 4 August 2001.
To: DoctorMichael
I remember B5 having a sub-current of negative commentary on Bill Clinton. President Clark was the villian of one of the seasons (though you never saw him) and was overthrown by the good folks at B5. He had alot of "Clintonesque" qualities - lying, coverup, using the military against his citizens, wagging the dog, etc.
By the way, Mellisa's email address for fans is mrsboxbert@aol.com - kind of refreshing that she signs her messages on her website (http://www.melissagilbert.net/) as "The Boxleitner Family" and her email address has "Mrs" in it. When's the last time Barbra called herself "Mrs Brolin" or Rosie called her self "Mrs. Butch"?

Eugene Boggs was probably the deal-breaker for Val Harper - her Ralph Nader, if you will. He is an extra on the board of directors and is probably the most liberal as he staked out the "anti-globalization" and anti-Hollywood crowd for his votes.

That's great. They'll start the recount by throwing out the overseas ballots.... LOL!
To: Ron C.
I thought she came from a very liberal background. Isn't she the adopted older sister of Sarah Gilbert, former member of the "Roseanne" cast?

Didn't Bruce Boxleitner have a tv series with Kate Jackson?

This just proves what I've always thought to be fact. Many of the actors are conservative, but are afraid to say so in public fearing never working in that town again.

"They'll start the recount by throwing out the overseas ballots.."
LOL... the best guffaw yet! (But, watch.. they'll wind-up in court for sure - arguing the validity of ballots - that could ONLY be obtained by voting members.)

Maybe you're onto something. Maybe Rosie was really saying, "I love Butch" but those around her heard it as, "I love Bush." That's about the only way I can really explain her recent turn to anything that resembles the "right".

Congratulations to Melissa Gilbert on her election!
Yes, she may be a Democrat (unwritten but required party affiliation if you want to work in Hollywood) and her V.P., Mike Farrell, is probably still a committed liberal but I see Gilbert being to SAG what Rudy Giuliani is to New York politics; as conservative as you can get and still be elected, which is a very big deal in Hollywood.
One has to consider that the events of September 11th had some bearing on the election, as well as Gilbert's classy persona compared to the shrill and obnoxious Harper. In any event, it's a good win for conservatives, although it may not have much impact on our lives. Shows a shift in thinking, even in Hollywood. That's immense - and welcome.

References to current events during the 90's: I noticed
this too from the show.
Specifics........
1) Babylon 5 had 2 to 3 entire episodes completely devoted to how the MEDIA can manipulate people's views on current events.
2) When they were rescuing Sheridan from the government prison (beginning of Season #4? filmed in 1997?) Garibaldi et al. tries to confuse the guards snappy patter; one of whom answers "I don't listen to the MAINSTREAM LIBERAL MEDIA". Hahahahahahahaha!
