LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Actress Melissa Gilbert was elected president of the Screen Actors Guild, union officials said, defeating actress Valerie Harper in a fiercely contested race that could end up being contested over a flaw in thousands of ballots.

I agree with you. Some people on this thread are either naive or have an agenda. She's no friend of conservatives.
What are the duties of the SAG president? You seem like you might know.
I got a chance to talk to Mr. Doyle last year right before the election. Good solid fiscal conservative. He started out on Wall Street and got into acting on a fluke.
Also talked to Bruce Boxlightener, Melissa Gilbert's husband a year before that. He's a conservative, but a little light on policy details. From what I have seen of Melissa on the talk show circuit, she is a very bright conservative woman. Apparently she took advantage of the private schooling her acting paid for and probably went to a solid Ivy League University as well.
Must be tough working on the very liberal "ER" set though. But she seems to hold her own well though.

Just when the Florida voting is finally tallied up, yet another presidential race will be challenged. Screen Actors Guild presidential candidate Valerie Harper is challenging Melissa Gilbert's win, according to Variety. Harper lost to Gilbert by a margin of 1,588 votes.
