I also should mention that Ayers is an influential consultant to the Chicago Public Schools and running some pilot programs about small schools. It makes me queasy thinking about him influencing children who have no way of knowing about his past or his still active ideology.

I think Sid is too young. Bernadine Doehrn for those who don't remember was a big sex symbol to the radicals. She was worshipped and alot of the radicals were in love with her. Sort of like a queen bee of terrorists. I think the weathermen were quite romanticized. They may have helped shield some of the other radicals, I have a vague recollection of their protecting the SLA and they did have sort of a connection with the Panthers.

Do a web search on "Bill Ayers", "Diana Oughton", and/or "Bernadette Dohrn". Use the quotes around the names to aid in your search. They were ALL rich kids with way too much time on their hands. Ayers is the son of the former CEO of Commonwealth Edison, and Diana Oughton's family holds a HUGE amount of land in central Illinois, mostly in trust, bought from their wealth gleaned through medical clinics in the late 1800's. I've seen Diana's grave and eaten in the former Oughton home, now turned into a restaurant.

student at Northwestern. Help me I am surronded by crazy lefties. Worse yet, NOWAR (Northwesterners opposing War and Racism) is getting more vocal on campus. It is disgusting. It isn't popular to support America and our just war.

does the name "Andrea Dworkin" mean anything to you?, I believe you're thinking of Catherine Mckinnon who, believe it or not, is a moderate compared to Dworkin.

Nice to meet you! I drive to Evanston 3 times a week on behalf of my kids, and my dad graduated from Northwestern in the 1940's. You can bet for DARN sure he isn't giving them any money, esp. after news like this. Let us know about these anti-war events by posting a FReeper activist event, and we'll turn out to help you counter-protest!

Actually they were Maoists and not anarchists.

For those who are confused by this, NU plays it's football games in Dyche Stadium. It's pronounced just how it looks. Not any more. It's called Ryan Field. 1Rudeboy is correct - it was re-named after the Patrick Ryan family - against the original agreement regarding the Dyche name. Pat and his lovely wife Shirley are always pictured in the social pages for charity events in local newspapers here - just about every week, in fact (and no, I am not making this up).

The estimated loss of $11,300 in donations is a tiny fraction of the $67.5 million Northwestern received from alumni in the last fiscal year, and is less than half the cost of annual tuition for one student. Who cares about the law school anyway? As long as this man is at NU I'll continue to give until it hurts:

Michigan? 70-7? Are you sure you're not confusing the Wolverines with another team? They generally don't run-up scores against weak opponents. It's the
Shembechler Doctrine.
The only time I ever recall Michigan running up the score was in the early 90s(?). The fans were mystified until next day's paper explained that it was payback time for the other team, whose quarterback had thrown a touchdown instead of taking a knee against Illinois the previous week.

What was that term long ago... taxation without representation. Radical chic, "oh how glorious Muffy to send our son Dylan to such a caring institution".

Well, at least donate your dough directly to the Athletic Dept. or athletic scholarships, so the lefties don't get a hold of it.

Back in 70's UM use to pound some weaklings like NWU, Navy, Rice...Great games, problem was giving 49 points and having the other teams 1st team scoring late TDs against UM's 4th team.... I guess you are too young to remember carrying 12 packs of brew into the Big House's cheap seats...

Maybe someone can donate an offensive line after the old fashioned woodshed beating the Huskers gave them at the Alamo Bowl.

Interesting. I guess I thought of them as anarchists because they were always breaking the law. Some of those who labeled themselves socialists or maoists or whatever were nothing more than criminal psychopaths with narcisstic personalities. That kind is always around. And they talk well and are bright and generally rich. But they are criminals. Just like Osama.

Yes, I remember the Alamo, where our bookish young lads, still exhausted from finishing their term papers on relativistic physics, faded into a purple haze. Do you remember this? Here's a little audio reminder.
How did you like this?

Thanks for the post--my dad graduated from law school there in the late '50's, and I went to the same law school for one year (later finished up in Colorado). It's a great school. I'll let my dad know.
