What was in it or was it empty?

Makes all the difference in the world.

I don't believe they would do a high-profile theft for their attack. Not when they have infiltrated society so well. They have trucks already.

Point taken. Just a heads up. Even if it's not a terrorist, someone who comes across this truck should alert authorities. The report didn't indicate if the truck was loaded. Will update if anymore is learned.

I wonder: How often are semi tractors stolen? I would guess it happens from time to time.

I can understand that in these times any such thing is suspect, but I have grave doubts it means anything.

Well, at least you didn't put it in "breaking".

LOL. I gave that some thought. The Chicago Outfit has been fairly emasculated in the last ten years or so. We don't see truck heists anymore like we used to. Like the other fella said, unless we know what they're hauling, it's hard to know if the authorities are right in their concern.

Unfortunately, it is necessary to pay attention to ALL odd incidents, because we do not know which ones are regular crimes and which ones are associated with terrorists.

It is necessary to also note odd occurrences that are not crimes, like large orders for odd items, people asking unusual questions, etc. The only way we will stop these people is if everyone pays attention.

In the process, we might also find a drop in the crime rate.

Exactly. Was it a truckload full of Pampers, or what?

Trailers are stolen all the time. It is not common for a tractor and the trailer to be stolen together.

When I worked on the west coast our trailers would get stolen and wind up being used as housing in Mexico. We never had tractor stolen let alone a tractor and trailer together.

I wasnt sure if this deserved a 'new article' post or not, so I'll tag it onto this thread.

Last nite I received an email (coming from a friend of a friend of a friend):

Hey everybody,
Sorry for the mass email, but I got important news tonight. My dad works for FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) and he's really involved with the goings on in NYC. He told me that within the last 24 hours, more than 30 Ryder, U-Haul, and Verizon trucks have been reported stolen across the country. The U-Haul and Ryder trucks were rented and then never returned, so they're considered stolen. Many of them were rented by people of Arab descent. I don't mean to make any assumptions, and I certainly don't want to scare you, but I thought you all might like to know. Be wary of these vehicles, pay attention to them, and don't walk or park near them. He said to stay out of major public places if at all possible because recreational sites would most likely be hit on weekends. I'm sorry to cause alarm, but he told me it was OK to share this information. If you'd like to forward it to anyone you know, feel free, as there is a possibility it might save lives.

Being a shipper to Chicago (frozen food biz), I can attest that semis are stolen there with great frequency.

Urban Myth Alert, Urban Myth Alert.

This email has surfaced, and been snuffed out, multiple times since 9/11.

Move along. Nothing to see here.

I'm wondering if the trailers have any kind of registration number painted on the tops. Seems like that would be a great way to track down a stolen trailer by helicopter.
