We need at least a National Service Corps. Draft both young men AND women for 18 mos. service helping with baggage checking, protecting bridges, tunels and borders. It is needed yesterday.

What is the exact age group that would be drafted, if conscription was reinstated?

The whole title of this article is misleading. The Pentagon has said repeatedly that there isn't even a consideration to reinstate the draft. The only "reports" are from reporters trying to create a story where there isn't one.

What is the exact age group that would be drafted, if conscription was reinstated? During Vietnam, it was from 18 to 26. I don't know what it was, during WWII, and Korea (if any).
I do know that for Korea, reserves were called up. Many in the reserves during 1945 to 1952 had seen WWII combat. By the time of Korea, the reservists had families and careers (my father and father-in-law) and didn't relish going back in.

The headline alone makes it official. The military draft will be reinstated.

That would make people hate the government... the government does not own its citizens. Thats an awful idea.

Well, they need to reinstate it, anyway. All Americans 18-24 should be subject to being called up, with the only exemptions being for religious or medical reasons (screw the college dodge). I'm 36, and one of the few vets of my generation. Generation X and Generation.com are screwed up because they never got any discipline at home, and have never been forced to live by any set of rules or values. A few weeks at Parris Island, Ft. Knox, Benning, Great Lakes, etc. might be just what they need to jerk their apathetic little a**es in line!

What is the exact age group that would be drafted, if conscription was reinstated? It could be anything. The old rules are long gone, and the military could probably draw up whatever new plans they wanted, were the draft to be reinstated.

Excuse me?! That is a broad generalization. I can wipe my own a$$, thank you very much.

Let's do it. I'm ready to go when called.

I cannot believe anyone on this list advocates reinstituting conscription! People here rail on Bubba for suggesting that everyone be required to perform community service before college, but they advocate the draft? Both types of 'service' take two (or more) years out of an individuals life, against their will, at the behest of some government official. Both are serious abbrogations of individual rights, and are essentially slavery! You can say that military service is for the common good and is everyones patriotic duty, but that is the same argument the liberals make for community service. You cannot have your cake and eat it too! Be consistent, not hypocrits! Besides, wasn't it proven decisively in Vietnam that volunteer soldiers perform much better, and more willingly, than conscripts? I know you will ask, so, no, I have not ever served in the military (or in the Peace Corps). Flame away.
