A pair of new polls yesterday showed Democrat Mark R. Warner strengthening his lead over Republican Mark L. Earley in the race for the Virginia governorship.

Mason-Dixon Political/Media Research Inc. put Warner in front by 6 percentage points, with 48 percent to 42 percent for Earley. Libertarian William Redpath had 1 percent, and 9 percent were undecided.

"...this isn't as bad as it seems."

It's not bad at all, to tell you the God's Honest Truth!! Ever since about three weeks ago, when the independent polls showed everything as a dead heat while Warner's internal polls showed there being a 11-point lead for the KlintonKlone, the Vast, LeftWing Medyuh Whore'd's been working overtime--with help from their bastard-child pollster buddies--to create a sense of inevitability about a Warner Win. It's absolute HOGWASH, IMHO, and Dubyuh could do his '02 Coattails a hellUVAlotta good by stumping fer Earley during this last week and helping him to a comfortable 8-12 point win next Tuesday. freeperferpresident is Right about one thing, Earley's not the most charismatic candidate the VA GOP's got in its stable, but he is AT LEAST 110% better than the KlintonKlone, Mark Warner!!

"Mud, relieve the suspense, whom do you think will end up winning?"

If Dubyuh stays out, Earley squeaks by 50%-48%...if Dubyuh stumps fer Earley, Earley wins 60%-35%!!

"(and since I recently moved to Ga. - I'll keep ya filled in on what's happening down here.)"

Awesome...when did all this happen?! We need someone to lead the FReeper Jihad to force Zell Miller to switch his vote fer Senate Majority Leader ASAP!! You game?!

- Surely the weather eventually has to turn and we'll get some rain.

I looked at the long-term weather report and it doesn't look like it will rain unless the new tropical storm (Michelle) in the Caribbean steams north real fast. Right now it should be PTCLDY ~65/~40 everywhere in Virginia on Election Day.

As I explained in post #57, my biggest gripe is his gun-a-month law. I'm sorry but I'm not 100% convinced by Earley's explanation. I'm also upset about him being a member of the NAACP. His "excuse" for being a member is about as convincing as Byrd's for being in the Klan. Of course I don't like Warner; I sure as hell am not going to vote for him. But if he wins, we have a few bad years and then we elect a decent Republican—like Kilgore or Katzen. If Earley wins, then he sets a new dominant paradigm and winds up shifting the Republican party to the left. I agree that neither solution is satisfactory. I agree that Earley would be considerably better as Governor than Warner. But I can't vote for someone who compromises the freedoms the founding fathers set forth in the Constitution. If you start compromising a little bit of God-given freedom for electoral security, you've lost your right, in my book, to have any freedom.

Hey, the one-gun per month thing upset a lot of folks, but afterwards the NRA fully endorsed him in his run for Attorney General and basically endorsed him this go 'round. Concerning the NAACP membership, I completely accept his explanation. He joined at the local level years ago and renounces the Mfume BS. No problem in my book. Paul Gillis was a Tidewater NAACP chapter head, I believe, and he said a lot of decent things and supported George Allen for Senate. (He got canned from his NAACP leadership position for that.)

Earley is pro life, pro military, pro right to self defense (though he needs some work), and against tax increases. And he's got 14 years of experience versus Warner's zero.

"Hey Mud, werent' you supposed to take care of Schapiro? ;-)"

Yes, Mike, God is a RightWing Whacko, and I say that with all due deference to the Almighty. 100% true story...

I was planning on skipping lunch today as I got into work a bit late due to an AM appointment at the MudCave. Well, my pager's been acting up and I've been getting some complaints about not responding to all my pages, so I went a got it replaced. On my way back to work, I was driving east on Franklin so I could zip by the RTD HQ to see if Schapiro was milling around outside...LOL!! At the Northeast Corner of the Richmond City Library I noticed two guys talking and one of them looks vaguely familiar...the guy was wearing a light-blue Oxford, white trousers, and was gesturing with his hands as if he was a bit "light-in-the-loafers," but there was no bowtie, which threw me off a bit. I went all the way up 'til I passed the RTD HQ and decided I had enough time to turn around and take another look. Took two (2) Right Turns and headed back up Main Street, then took a Right on the road just to the east of the City Library and pulled in within twenty feet of the two gentlemen...YEP, IT WAS SCHAPIRO!!!

LOL...he didn't see me as I pulled through Franklin and took a Left into the Alley between Franklin and Grace, drove one block and took two lefts and was back on Franklin...there he was...STILL!! I honked twice "beep-beep" and waved my left arm out the window, and as he looked at my vehicle trying to figger out who was honking at him, I hollered at the top of my lungs, "SCHAPIRO, YER MY B!+(H!!!!""

ROFL...sped off before the near-sighted one could get my license plate number, but that Lefty Whore's gonna have his FILL'O'MUD before this Counter-CounterCulture War's all said and done...)=^D!!

BTW...Rush's Calling on Dubyuh to Campaign for Earley and Schundler As I Type This!!

If Earley wins, then he sets a new dominant paradigm and winds up shifting the Republican party to the left.

I don't see this as a legitimate argument at all for allowing a liberal Democrat to win this election. The candidates in the future will be the ones who get out and campaign for the nomination, and get the most votes at either the convention or in the primary. If conservatives get out and back a strong candidate, then the candidates will be conservatives. If not, then we let the other wing of the party have the nomination. I see the current candidate's position as having no influence on the future of the party.

Earley is going to lose because Bush is too busy throwing baseballs; Schundler is going to lose because Bush is afraid to be seen with him. By not campaigning for either candidate, Bush has proven that he is no defender of the right to life.
