The film from yesterday with Enya in background brought this to my mind as well. I think we all like to think it was over in seconds for all those poor victims. From the pictures I have seen, the people had a fair amount of time to think, burn or jump, what a horrible decision and the last one they all had to make.

"...From the pictures I have seen, the people had a fair amount of time to think, burn or jump..." My father, a retired dentist, treated a patient who had fallen from a grain elevator and luckily survived with only broken legs and teeth. I was assisting my father at that time and I will never forget him and what he told us.
He said that it seemed to take forever to get down. If my memory serves me correctly he mentioned passing in and out of consciousness but mainly that it just took what seemed like forever to get to the bottom. That always stuck in my mind.
