I'm trying to take this all in stride, but frankly, I can't think of too many ways to parse that phrase. The Cuban missile crisis was not about "dirty" (radiological) bombs. It was not about "tactical" bombs, and it was not about "suitcase" bombs.
Maybe I'd be more lackadaisical if I hadn't read the following a few hours earlier:
From a very reliable source, which I will not divulge, I was told this two days ago; the Russians claim they "misplaced" 5 nuclear warheads that were being transferred to subs, and as such they are now unaccounted for.
There is no way these could fit into suitcases, so that part is urban legend.

They're on now with another bulletin on this.
"May be more serious than originally thought."

From a very reliable source, which I will not divulge, I was told this two days ago; the Russians claim they "misplaced" 5 nuclear warheads that were being transferred to subs, and as such they are now unaccounted for. Russian nuclear weapons, like American ones, have coded interlocks that prevent their detonation by a crazed individual within the Russian military itself, much less anyone who might steal one.

I just heard them say that the terrorists keep using a code word in their phone conversations.
The code word the means "BIG EVENT" the USA believes.

The government said we have not seen such a serious crisis since... Did they say WHO in the government said?
To: Don Joe
Latest FNC blurb had to do with Nuclear Power Plants being on "Highest Alert" and a statement about terrorists trained to storm and 'melt down' (I think that was the phrase,, was half asleep) these plants. Also included a comment about the next 72 hrs being the most critical.

In another thread
Iraq's Saddam Hussein Threatens the West, an open letter from Saddam is posted. Lengthy. Something didn't sound right to me...
snip
On the basis of this realistic image, the entire world needs to be saved from the deep abyss it might be pushed into by the US, and the likes of the US, whether they are states, individuals, or organizations. In fact, now that we know the limits of how American rulers conduct themselves in crisis, the US itself needs to be saved by the world while it is saving itself. Otherwise, the world will be pulled down by the weight of the US while falling down to the bottom of a deep pit from which it will not be able to come out until that pit is filled with blood and tragedies, not to mention those who will suffocate because they cannot swim.
end snip
The bold portion seems to not fit the text previous to it. Being at a higher state of alert again, and this odd comment about suffocating because they cannot swim... are there any dams near heavily populated areas? Or some other means of mass flooding/drowning possible?

FOX just confirmed what you said in exact words. Then went on to other news.

As long as they will not ask to deport muslims and jail leftists supporting them, I will not take any within the government seriously.
Serious attack or no serious attack, if we let them roam the nation, it ain't comparable to the courrage displayed during the Cuban missile crisis.
"Fox and Friends" on now, the have the reporter going over the story, I think they may discuss it, hopefully expand on it. If you've got Fox News, might be good to tune in.

Anything to keep the sheeple on edge and distracted from the tanking economy and a failed war.

.... We have not seen such a serious threat since the Cuban missile crisis (quoted) ....
Whoever wrote the headline was probably not alive during the Cuban Missle Crisis or the Cold war for that matter.
I do not mean to trivialize the current threat, but I can't see any scenario in which possible actions by the Taliban or their fundamentalist Muslim followers which could lead to an all out exchange of nuclear weapons on a global scale by super powers ..... and that is what was at stake in the Cuban Missle Crisis.
The last thing we need is the press exagerrating the situation.
