Works for me.

Started October of last year, lost 40 pounds, cut my cholesterol and triglycerides by a third, dropped my blood pressure, blood sugar level normal. I was/am hypoglycemic and was borderline diabetic. No longer. I held the weight loss for the past 4 months, and have now started on my second weight loss trek, on the way to an even better weight.

More than the weight, I am wearing clothes sizes I didn't fit into at this same weight on any other "diet." Body looks better all over.

I have found, through this Way of Eating/Way of Life (it isn't a diet, you don't go BACK to eating crap) that I have either a wheat allergy or a real carbohydrate addiction. I eat bread, I feel awful. I don't eat bread and other starches, I feel great.

Is it for everyone? No. Neither is Weight Watchers. All I know is, I eat three eggs and bacon every single day for breakfast, steak or chicken for dinner, and green veggies. Plus cream, no milk. I have a KILLER chocolate mousse recipe made with REAL CREAM I can eat every day of my life. I haven't touched a candy bar in a year.

And better yet, I don't crave one, either.

Can those anti-Atkins folks say that?

I just finished a bowl of yummy Egg based chocolate mousse. 1/2 tsp of fruitcose sweetens enough for 5 servings. Cheers.

You are right. It is "A Way of Life". That's the way I describe it to people that ask why I don't eat white stuff :-) At 103 lbs. I'm a few lbs. heavier than I was at 20. But I don't have to buy a new wardrobe every 6 months.

BTW, someone said Miller Lite had 3 grams of carbs. It's 3.5 :-)

I am glad it works for you, I have known people it has worked for and people it hasn't... I personally think the main reason most lose weight especially early is simply from cutting out sugar from their diets.. don't know how much the carb avoidance has to do with their initial drop. Cutting out sugar for the average person who has not dieted cuts out a ton of empty calories.

For those that it works for great, didn't do a damned thing for me except make me sick of meat for about a month aftewards. (And I am a guy who loves it)..

I am not on Atkins, or a low carb, (have tried it in the past, didn't do squat for me) but I am on a diet and today I had a Bacon sandwitch for breakfast with egg and cheese, lunch was a roast beef and cheese, with carrots and a granola bar, I had an apple this afternoon, and tonight I will be having pork chops, green beans and probably a potatoe side dish, and will have a desert most likely as well... And I will still be on my diet, and I will lose 2-3 lbs this week most likely. Not only that, I will probably have Pizza sometime this week, probably lasagna one night and a candy bar here and there through the week as well if the craving strikes me.

If Atkins has worked for you, that is great, but the idea that you cannot eat on healthy diets and enjoy foods is ludicrous.

I have found, through this Way of Eating/Way of Life (it isn't a diet, you don't go BACK to eating crap) that I have either a wheat allergy or a real carbohydrate addiction. I eat bread, I feel awful.

My husband and I have been doing Atkins now for about 4 months. Hubby has lost 34 pounds; and I have lost 20 pounds. We have modified it somewhat and are eating more veggies and some fruit (mostly melon); but the cravings for food are not there. The first week or two was rough, at least for me, and the symptoms I had were akin to withdrawal. I occasionally have some rice, but try to keep my amount down to a serving (1/2 cup).

Now, I have tried every diet known to man, and have had a weight problem since I hit puberty. After my kids, I just kept going up the scale and nothing seemed to be able to stop it. I would try diets, lose 2-3 pounds and then plateau --- for weeks and weeks. It didn't matter how "good" I was on the diet; it didn't matter how "bad" I was. My body just hung on to the weight. Now, the progress has not been really rapid; but the progress is always downward which is the first time that has happened to me in years. My husband seems to have regained his ability to know when he is full and stop eating. He has said he just doesn't feel hungry anymore on this diet.

Now, DAKOTABOUND, I had the same thing happen to me with bread. I discovered that when I had bacon and eggs, it wasn't the bacon that was upsetting my stomach, it was the piece of toast I had with it. I am on Prilosec, and I would take one before meals and still need Tums or something before I went to bed. Now, I skip days and don't even realize it. I, too, believe I have a wheat allergy or intolerance to gluten. I look at bread now and know my stomach is going to give me hell if I have a piece.

As for exercise. This is sort of a catch-22 thing as you do need exercise to lose weight; but, when you are carrying a whole lot of weight (I am carrying about 60 extra pounds and this is after the 20 I lost), it is tough to move. I have found now that I have lost 20 pounds, I am able to walk a greater distance and a more rapid pace. My blood pressure is also down significantly (Atkins or simply weight-loss, I can't say) and I just feel better.

My personal POV is that no one diet is correct for every person. As for cholesterol, I never had a problem with that even at my heaviest. I do want to check it out soon and compare it to the test I had last year. For me, and my husband, Atkins has worked out very well. Constipation can be a problem --- drink water (and we did add some fruit to help with this). You will only find out, I think, by trying it. Perhaps it will work for you, or you may not be able to handle it. Don't be afraid to modify it if you need to. I have done that and still am losing weight. Good luck.
