The Taliban is going to get its @$$ kicked, but an official declaration of war is like seeking justice in front of the teacher (or, in this case, the Geneva convention).
I disagree, I do not think our troops should be deployed in conflict with any other country without a declaration of war
Excerpts: "But in concert with the (Judiciary Cttee)'s top Democrat, Conyers, Sensen.. had scaled back the expanded police and surveillance powers sought by the ...Administration. Sensenbrenner...was blunt about it, calling ...Ashcroft's proposal "a law enforcement wish-list" that the Senate "rubber-stamped." ....the Ashcroft plan [was] a bit of a grab..."I've always had a healthy suspicion of granting the police too much power," [said Sensenbrenner.]
...many lawmakers were outraged after closed negotiations between House leaders, Sensen..and the Admin. "The attorney General was very unhappy with [Judiciary's] bill" He described his relations with Justice as "very strained."
Sense...was forced to accept a package much closer to the Senate bill.
(End of story excerpts.)
One can tell that this bill was more than a little controversial, as Bob Barr came to the Senate to pump Sensenbrenner's FIRST solution--along with Conyers and some others. They LOST.
I have the article on a Winchester disk (mlm. format) but don't know how to move it to FreeRepublic--and the copyright issue is out there, too.
