McCain: Bring In the B-52s
NewsMax.com | 10-25-01 | Sen. John McCain

Posted on 10/26/2001 6:57:48 PM PDT by Godfollow

Congress' most prominent war hero, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., warned Friday that carpet-bombing raids by America's mightiest warplanes will be necessary to defeat Osama bin Laden and the Taliban government, adding that the U.S. can't worry about killing innocent civilians in the process.

"We must ... get on with the business of killing our enemies as quickly as we can and as ruthlessly as we must," McCain advised, in an op-ed piece in Friday's Wall Street Journal.

The Vietnam War hero suggested military planners have been too sparing in the amount of ordnance the U.S. has dropped on the Taliban thus far.

"We have not yet deployed B-2's and B-52's, the most destructive weapons in our airborne arsenal, against them," he noted. "We shouldn't fight this war in increments. ... They'll need to experience a more impressive display of American firepower before they contemplate surrender."

What about recent displays of public hand-wringing over the prospect of killing innocent Afghans as bin Laden's forces hide in civilian homes and even mosques?

"We cannot allow the Taliban safe refuge among the civilian population," McCain warned. "We must destroy them wherever they hide. That will surely increase the terrible danger facing noncombatants ... but it will also shorten the number of days they must suffer war's cruel reality."

The Taliban will take anything less than an all-out effort as a sign of weakness, the Arizona Republican said.

"Our enemies harbor doubts that America will use force with a firm determination to achieve our ends, that we will use all the force necessary to achieve unconditional victory. We need to persuade them otherwise immediately."

Atta Boy John!!

Kill them wherever they may hide. I knew before the media reported it that they would hide in mosques, UN centers, hospitals and even homes. Heck, they frequently commandeered homes in every village south of the Alliance before 9/11, why wouldn't they do it now? Doesn't anyone remember the three Afghan girls interviewed in the "Behind the Veil" documentary? The ones who said their parents were shot before their eyes? The ones who refused to answer what the Taliban did to the girls afterward?

These maggots are just as inhumane, if not worse, than Nazi Germany. They must be eradicated.

The new issue of Cowboys & Indians has an interview with Schwartzkopf in which he discusses moving to Telluride, CO, and fishing with his good bud - ta da - Tom Brokaw. Must say that was an eye-opener. I had heard he was a 'moderate' Democrat - which is what Brokaw claims to be.

lots of munition dropping but it's not the dreaded "C" word. Screw the media and the fallout. Take the offensive. Our President should rallying us, angering us on a daily basis. What are we afraid of? We are getting taken apart finger by finger on our own homeland. Just wait until the next attack. Coordinated domestic stinger attack against civilian aircraft? Dumping Anthrax from a cropduster into the air intakes of a domed stadium? Carpet bombing defeats the enemy. I guess we have to take the 6 figure hit before we get permission to seek and destroy.

We need to get the ones by the airports so we can get closer! Too much distance to really get heavy bombing going. Use the B-52's and Cluster bombs and grab some airports .

What's even worse about Pakistan's "feelings" is that the citizens are acting as spies and informing the Taliban of our actions. The hanged Commander, Haq, was surrounded over two days as a direct result of Pakistani info to the Taliban, who tracked him every step of the way. Our military and CIA actually seem gullible to me at this point. As a result, I have to believe the best option is mass destruction with overwhelming force.

It's not just thermal imaging. It's also "e-lint" and "sig-int" -- the intercepts of content and the location of transmissions and emissions by everything from PCs to phones to microwave ovens and heat pumps.

We ARE gathering a wealth of information enabled by focus, people on the ground, and the use of intel assets THEY don't have.

For example, those 20 perps killed with one bomb while having a Tali-meeting? We KNEW where they were GOING to be, so we could task the aircraft, put a human on the ground in the right spot and either place a laser emitter or lase the building. It's going to take time, but we WILL win.

Finally McCain is finding his role. Hopefully he will have an effect on all those limp-wristed moderates whom he appealed to in the primaries.

Glad he's not in the driver's seat but he will be a great spokesperson for the administration in a time of war.

No boots to the ground. Not yet. Why risk our wonderful boys lives for a bunch of suicidal animals? Use extreme prejudice with awesome aerial bombing. If the rest of the world recoils, then our tactics are effective. We shouldn't be trying to make friends right now. We should be teaching others the meaning of healthy respect.

Kabul should have been a smoking hole within 48 hours after the Taleban rebuked us. Because it isn't, the conflict and loss of life will be greater. Sad.

One thing about McCain. He fights to win and breaks out all the heavy equipment. Remember the primary against W.

That was a scorched earth campaign complete with Catholic voter alert phone calls and the demonization of Jerry Falwell.

He's a maniac. Glad he's on our side.

McCain is absolutely right. Quit pussy-footing around. If you have to draw down on somebody, you better pull the damn trigger and aim for center mass. It is widely reported today, that the Taliban are scoffing at our bombing. Savages only respect one thing -- brute force. Let em' have it.

well, no. we're making erroneous presumptions about the middle-eastern mind -- the same mind that in 1993 was calling us losers because we left before obliterating saddam. in fact, we would have won this war on 11 september if, before the second tower hit the ground, we had had bombers in the air headed for iraq, under the buckley doctrine which specifies that taking out somebody who might have done it and who you're going to have to take out eventually anyway is a good idea, because it gets everybody's attention.

instead, we're coming across to the mideast as a bunch of milquetoasts, an allegation that at the moment is pretty difficult to refute. we befriend haq, and get haq offed. at the moment, we are losing this war, boys and girls. not because we can't win, but because we refuse to do the things necessary to win.

instead, we're foursquare in a morass of stupidity -- sucking up to pakistan is possibly the most ill-advised thing we possibly could have done. sucking up to mideastern nations is the second silliest thing we could have done. the sole meaningful tactic is to teach by illustration the lesson that terrorism against the united states is something so overwhelmingly expensive that no one can afford to do it. this has the effect of causing nations that have sponsored terrorism or have looked the other way when terrorists are in their midst to snappyfast rethink themselves and to police their subjects.

"We have not yet deployed B-2's

Where has McCain been? We don't deploy B-2's. We fly them out of Missouri. And they have been used in Afghanistan.

I think McCain has been overcome - just like Clinton - in thinking of "what might have been". Can you imagine Senator "Dr. Strangelove" McCain running this war - marbles and all?

No slam, just curious. WHY do you want him to be president? Do you want him to be prez, or do you just want to carpet bomb Afghanistan and REALLY punish "the enemy?"

Think in terms of desired outcomes, not actions. What's the outcome(s) you want?

the last three words are exact truth. "police their subjects." That's the whole problem in a nice neat nutshell.

Richard Nixon, Harry Truman, these gents maintained the respect. It's lost now and we are targets collectively and individually.
