Labeling Bin Laden "The Evil One" Is Excessively Judgemental (Commentary from watsonfellow)
Channeling watsonfellow | October 26, 2001 | PJ-Comix (channeling watsonfellow)

I am growing vey disturbed with President Bush. I initially supported him because I considered him to be a traditional conservative. That is, one with the proper Tory attitudes (as personified by my hero, Evelyn Waugh) and is non-judgemental. However, now I find, much to my horror, that he is turning into a populist conservative.

The most recent evidence that Bush is displaying those horrid populist conservative attitudes, is his his labeling of Osama Bin Laden as "The Evil One." I find this term to be excessively judgemental. Even worse, it is impolite. Can't we, as conservatives show better form (remember, good form while not everything, is indeed something) than this? I suggest that President Bush call Mr. Bin Laden, "our distinguished opponent." Not only does that sound less judgemental, it is also much more civilized.

"Traditional conservatives will always play by the rules even if their opponents don't. This is what makes traditional conservatives such good losers and why I admire them."

If you admire them, can one could safely assume that you rank yourself with the traditional conservative? If so, why do you use a variant spelling of judgmental ie: judg e mental, rather than the universally accepted one.

Secondly, people make decisions constantly based on their judgment. It is a relatively recent phenomena that being judgmental is somehow wrong. "Non-judgmental" is a just another entry from the PC lexicon of catch phrases.

Since G.W. Bush was the only presidential candidate to cite Jesus Christ as his most influential philosopher, why should you be surprised or bothered that he refers to bin Laden as the Evil One? It's not going to cost him any votes, that's for sure. It's becoming a harmless eccentricity of the President's.

I agree with you about being a good loser. Being a sore loser (like Al Gore's minions) is bad form. It just isn't cricket, old boy.

I suggest that President Bush call Mr. Bin Laden, "our distinguished opponent."

Or "our worthy bewhiskered adversary," or "that jolly turbaned fellow with whom we love to disagree" The latter could be shortened to "tjtfwwwltd" for ease of repeated reference.

The PC possibilites are endless.

Rather than refer to him as "evil," I think maybe we whould just note that he is merely "misguided." Seems less... perjorative.

I’ve never heard Bush call ben Laden “the evil one”. A few days ago I heard him call the terrorists “the evil ones”, referring to evil people in general. I think this “evil one” thing might be an urban legend.

You will note that I am currently studying Islamic culture. Today I even made an important discovery in this area. You are supposed to read those funny squiggly lines backwards, not the correct way.

So are they as warlike as they sound? Have you been allowed to touch a real Koran? Do you wash your hands and feet 5 times a day? Have you found out what distinguishes Islam from a dangerous widespread cult?

"Hey, I'm depraved on account of I'm deprived!"

>--------------------------------------------------------

OFFICER KRUPKE(West Side Story)

ACTION: See, those cops, they believe everythin’ they read in the papers about us cruddy JD’s. So, that’s what we give ‘em … somethin’ to believe in.

SNOWBOY (as Officer Krupke): Hey, you!

ACTION: Who, me, Officer Krupke?

SNOWBOY: Yeah, you! Give me one good reason for not draggin’ you down to the stationhouse, ya punk!

ACTION: Dear kindly Sergeant Krupke, ya gotta understand, it’s just our bringing-upke that gets us out of hand. Our mothers all are junkies, our fathers all are drunks: golly Moses, naturally we’re punks.

JETS: Gee, Officer Krupke, we’re very upset. We never had the love that every child ought to get. We ain’t no delinquents, we’re misunderstood. Deep down inside us there is good.

ACTION: There is good!

JETS: There is good, there is good, there is untapped good; like, inside the worst of us is good.

SNOWBOY: That’s a touchin’ good story.

ACTION: Let me tell it to the world!

SNOWBOY: Just tell it to the judge!

ACTION: Dear kindly Judge, Your Honor: my parents treat me rough. With all their marijuana, they won’t give me a puff. They didn’t want to have me, but somehow I was had: leapin’ lizards, that’s why I’m so bad.

JUDGE: Right! Officer Krupke, you’re really a square. This boy don’t need a judge, he needs an analyst’s care. It’s just his neuroses that ought to be curbed. He’s psychologically disturbed!

ACTION: I’m disturbed!

JETS: We’re disturbed, we’re disturbed, we’re the most disturbed; like, we’re psychologically disturbed!

JUDGE: Hear ye, hear ye: in the opinion of this court, this child is depraved on account he ain’t had a normal home.

ACTION: Hey, I’m depraved on account of I’m deprived!

JUDGE: So, take him to a head-shrinker.

ACTION: My daddy beats my mommy. My mommy clobbers me. My grandpa is a commie. My grandma pushes tea. My sister wears a moustache. My brother wears a dress. Goodness gracious, that’s why I’m a mess.

HEAD-SHRINKER: Yes! Officer Krupke, he shouldn’t be here. This boy don’t need a couch, he needs a useful career. Society’s played him a terrible trick, and, sociologically, he’s sick.

ACTION: I am sick!

JETS: We are sick, we are sick, we are sick sick sick; like, we’re sociologically sick!

HEAD-SHRINKER: In my opinion, this child does not need to have his head shrunk at all. Juvenile delinquency is purely a social disease.

ACTION: Hey, I’ve got a social disease!

HEAD-SHRINKER: So take him to a social worker.

ACTION: Dear kindly social worker, they tell me get a job; like be a soda-jerker, which means like be a slob. It’s not I’m anti-social, I’m only anti-work; glorie-osky, that’s why I’m a jerk!

SOCIAL WORKER: Yechh! Officer Krupke, you’ve done it again! This boy don’t need a job, he needs a year in the pen. It ain’t just a question of misunderstood: deep down inside him, he’s no good!

ACTION: I’m no good!

JETS: We’re no good, we’re no good, we’re no earthly good; like the best of us is no damn good!

JUDGE: The trouble is he’s lazy!

HEAD-SHRINKER: The trouble is he drinks!

SOCIAL WORKER: The trouble is he’s crazy!

JUDGE: The trouble is he stinks!

HEAD-SHRINKER: The trouble is he’s growing!

SOCIAL WORKER: The trouble is he’s grown!

ALL: Krupke, we’ve got troubles of our own!

JETS: Officer Krupke, we’re down on our knees …

ACTION: … ‘cause no one wants a fella with a social disease!

JETS: Hey, Officer Krupke, what are we to do?
Gee, Officer Krupke, krup you!

Fred, He has referred to the terrorists and others as "evil-doers" at least a few times, as he should.

The accusation that labeling Bin Laden "The Evil One" is excessively judgemental", is itself a judgment, and an excessive one at that.

Cordially,

Let me see, you love Howard Stern and hate Dr. Laura with a passion, and you want us to buy that you liked Bush beause he was a "traditional conservative". Let me just LOL....

Now my good fellow, let me offer you a little analogy as to what we are doing here. Simply put, if the object of diving is to get into the water quickly, then a quick jump into old briney would suffice. That would be a flame. Flaming is so ....well, declasé. But to get into the water quickly with style and grace with little ripple of the water, that is olympic diving. That is the essence of good form that is being practiced here. One must still get one's point across, but if done without syle and grace, it simply won't do old thing.

regards

Sam, my good fellow, need I point out to you that one traipses abroad? One gallivants in one's home country. Let's keep our terminology straight, shall we? Now, if your home is London, perhaps you could traipse about Boston... you understand. There's a good fellow. ;-)

We must get that jolly good fellow, Mad Ivan, in on this discussion. I do think we have been judgemental as is our want here in the States, we are a primitive sort. May I suggest that we refer to the Esteemed Mr. Bin Laden as a "Person who made bad choices" or better yet " a person who made dreadful choices" or would that be too judgemental?

To deem his choices dreadful would be to judge his choices, you see.
