he has his preconceived notions

You are the one with “preconceived” notions, and you’re trying to push them on us. I don’t go on Israeli or Zionist websites and try to push my beliefs on other people. But you come here and ridicule our beliefs. That makes people mad. If you want to be a street preacher, get yourself a soapbox and set up in a park somewhere.

He obviously is not interested in exchanging ideas

I’ve tried to exchange ideas with you, but you are only interested in promoting your ideas. If we all don’t immediately convert to your beliefs and way of thinking, you get mad at us. You don’t want to hear our ideas, you only want to promote your ideas. You are trying to proselytize people you think are “heathens”, and you get mad when they don’t become BenF cultists.

no amount of discussion will change his opinions.

That’s nonsense. Everyone who believes in the terms of the New Testament are the subject of the Bible. If you believe only in the Old Testament, then that’s your business.

1) The events of the Bible (and even the "new testament") take place among Jews in 'Eretz Yisra'el, not in the United States of America which was founded a mere two hundred odd years ago by enlightenment rationalists and freemasons (you know--Illuminati types).

2) You dismiss my rejection of the "new testament" (which I used to believe in, btw; I'm not Jewish) because you cannot defend it on any logical grounds whatsoever. There was already a Bible before the "new testament" was written. The "new" (as in "if it's new, it ain't true") testament had as much authority behind it as the qur'an. You only believe it because it's always followed the book of Malachi. Well it didn't always follow the book of Malachi. Belief in its authenticity is based on the logical fallacy of "affirmation of the consequent," just as is evolution. If I were to ask you to prove to me the "new testament" is from G-d you would only quote it to prove it, and you miss the point that I don't recognize its authority to begin with.

The "old testament" does not authorize the "new" one. The latter can only be accepted dogmatically on its own authority, since no authority for it can be found in the "old testament." And it is because you realize this that you run into a corner and hide.

Maybe Christians on either side of the Israel issue can try to explain to me their opponents or their own view if you ask this question:

Christians believe in the divinity of Jesus because they believe it was foretold (promised)in the Jewish Bible. But then some believe that Christianity voids the promises of the Jewish Bible.

If the promises of the Jewish bible are voided then it should also void your belief (as you understand it) in it's prophesy of a Jewish messiah.

Or do you get to pick and choose what you like from the Jewish Bible? And who chooses which parts.

Phrased badly but I hope question is understood.

I'm done with you.

You can run, but you can't hide.

Your anti-America arrogance speaks for itself.

You're an embarrassment to the Jewish people.

Ben, I think every person in the world should defend and promote their own favorite “homeland”, in their own homeland. But on the internet, I don’t think people should go on boards that support one homeland, and then promote a different homeland. You are just asking for trouble when you do that.

Go on Mexican boards, and you’ll see people promoting Mexico over all other countries. Go on China message boards, and you’ll see people promoting China. This is an Americanism message board. The United States of America is the homeland of most people who post here. You can’t come here and promote a homeland that is different from the USA, and not expect people to get mad at you. You’ve got no right to insult us, just because we don’t want to support your own personal favorite homeland first.

We have beliefs too. No one has appointed you “World Supreme Thought Policeman in Charge of Beliefs”. I’ve always shown people of your beliefs respect by not going on their message boards trying to support my homeland first. Why don’t you show us the same respect? You’re acting just like the militant Islamics by insulting our religion and our country.

Yes, but "life of the mother" has been interpreted very differently from time to time by different rabbonim. I wish I had my notes to hand about it all -- I can't even remember the source texts. Presumably by "authentic", you mean Torah-true, btw...? Or are you being more specific still?

Thanks for your defense, but it is no use. He is like Fred25, Toilet Duck, and many, many others. I explained something patiently to him, and all he does is ignore my explanations and hurl accusations. OK, he can do that. But he doesn't fool anyone.

Yes, it has. And, to the extent that these Rabbonim are authentic, we have to trust their judgement until it can be proven otherwise.

Presumably by "authentic", you mean Torah-true, btw...? Or are you being more specific still?

This is exactly what I mean.

Why do you find it necessary to defend BenF? Is he not capable of doing that? Are you his keeper?

>>>... anyone who wants to can understand what he was saying and none of it was anti-American.

You don't know what you're talking about!

BenF said: >>>No, you will abandon Israel to support what is evil and unjust. That is your history and, sadly, your destiny.

To my eyes, this is anti-American. No two ways about it.

So, if I was you, I'd give it a rest yourself. You have injected yourself into something that is, frankly, none of your business.

America is at WAR and I won't stand for this type of anti-American crappola!

Additionally, I should have said that I think that it's overstating it a bit to say conversion is discouraged. It isn't encouraged, and each individual convert is discouraged three times, but that is to ensure that each person converts for the right reasons. Once converted, they are treated no differently in halakha from other Jews. Additionally, as a by-the-bye, conversion across all branches of Judaism, including reform, are getting more stringent. In British Liberal Judaism, the rough equivalent of American Reform, you have to take a series of very searching tests to be converted. What you don't have to do, and one of the reasons why Orthodox Jews won't accept Liberal conversions, is adhere to strict halakha in your daily life. In other words, you don't have to lay t'fillin every morning or otherwise be shomrei mitzvot.

This God as a real estate agent notion is just a nonsense! How can you explain this racist idea? Suppose Bin Laden converted to Jewdism tomorrow; he would become inheratant of that piece of desert thing called cannan, and he will be an Israeli citizen in the same day. This disregards that he is an evil man, or a criminal. People from the Soviet Union, who never been to a Jewish temple in their lifes, became citizens, over night just by saying they had Jewish heritage. This whole Biblical thing is supposed to be simply a history. People who get hot and bothered by Jedia, and Sameria, Cannan.... should just get a life. Life is short on this planet for all these evanglists to spend their life thinking about Armagaten/ and the second coming? It was supposed to have happend according to the bible in the seventeen hundreds, and every few years some other nut thinks that it, it will happen tomorrow....

Get glasses, get LASIK, get something.

Unless you can show me proof that Toilet Duck is really Uncle Sam (and BenF knew or should have known).

Driver's license or other photo ID may do.

I'm Christian, but I certainly beleive that Jews are God's chosen people. God will only favor the US as long as we are friends to Israel and the Jewish people. Not that that is the only reason to side with Israel, the reason is that of all the countries in the Middle East, only they are friends with US.

You are stereotyping again. Everybody is “wrong” if they disagree with you. Everybody is “just alike” if they disagree with you. That is an obsessive narcissistic egotistical attitude.

I think you misinterpreted my first point. It was that great Orthodox rabbonim including Rambam and others have disagreed on exactly what is covered by the life of the mother. I'm sure that I remember correctly that one rabbi from the C20 (and no, not a Liberal, an Orthodox scholar) interprets "life" to include psychological trauma that might lead to suicide. If I remember, I'll check sources and post on monday. If I remember.

I am a Republican conservative southern Baptist. I stand firmly behind Israel.

I certainly choose to support the Jews over the crazed Islamic fundamentalists. I now have a understanding of Israel's situation after seeing what kind of wild animals they have to deal with in the muslims.

It is such a shame that liberal Jews do so much harn to Israel (liberals/Democrats). They wouldn't even fight for Israel as I would. They would prefer to let someone else do it. They even wanted to negotiate with the terrorists animals. They don't want a strong defense to protect us from the violent muslims. Again, the liberal Jew is one of Israel's enemy.

In my humble opinion, you’ve been conned and you’ve been converted. Believe what you want to believe,

If I've been conned, why do you tell me to believe what I want to believe? Because you can't refute me? Because you have no reason whatsoever for your beliefs except that that's what you've always believed?

but don’t attack my country, its founders, or my religion.

Thomas Jefferson--born again chr*stian! [/Sarcasm] What do you think of ultrarightwing Catholics who attack Jefferson and the Declaration of Independence (like those at The Remnant)? Do they get a free pass for attacking him in the name of chr*stianity rather than in the name of the Torah?

I think it would be much better if you promote your anti-Christian propaganda elsewhere.

Meanwhile FR is full of anti-chr*stian atheists and rationalists who attack Israel (like Seti1 or whatever his name is) who attack the Bible as primitive mythology and you give them a free pass. It's okay to be anti-chr*stian as long as you are anti-Jewish as well--right?
