Not necessarily. The bar is lowered for citizenship, however, for immigrants married to U.S. citizens. The waiting period of residency for an immigrant married to a citizen is 3 years (going through that now).
I have no problem with the US government dealing with and deporting illegal aliens. If someone can't handle the legal method of coming to the US, then round them up and ship them home.
What I have taken issue with is the fanatical, reactionary call in this thread to deport ALL aliens -- legal and illegal. This would unnecessarily break up families here in the States only to appease some xenophobic bigots on the far right of the political spectrum. Although, there is no worry. President Bush is a tolerant and diversity-respecting man, and would ignore reactionary calls for families to be broken up here in the States. I'm glad I voted for him.
It just shows me that some so-called "conservatives" talk up a good game on "family values", but then let their xenophobic backwater fears of people of different accents and skin colours take priorities.
