This is silly. Anyone who reads Dune knows that the Mahdi is Muad'dib.

I always wondered how authors came up with so many original names for characters and places in their books... then one day I realized they STOLE THEM ALL almost exclusively from history...

Well, if you knew more history, this would not have surprised you. Writers aren't going to invent things out of thing air when there is so much good history going to waste, unused. And writers tend to be better read than most people. Anyway, Dune was set in the far future, so naturally, everything from our history would also still be there in Dune's fictional history.
