To make a long story short, it appears that Spielberg has gone in and digitally removed the guns from the federal agents' hands in the DVD version of "E.T.-the extra terrestrial."
The story can be read by clicking on the Source link above.
Spielberg supposedly did this because he thought the sight of federal agents bursting into a child's home with guns was too unsettling.
For some reason, however, the sight of it happening in real life at Waco and Elian's home in Miami wasn't so unsettling that Stevie-boy stopped supporting Slick Willie Clinton.

"No wait, I can just tell ET it is a gun, like he's ever seen one before..... You watch it buddy, this thing is loaded."

Yeah, I got free tickets to an early screening of AI the week before it opened... I'm just glad I didn't have to pay for it... although I did lose that chunk of time... /sigh
I have to wonder what it would have been like if Kubrick could have actually done the movie himself. Ah well.
At least we can warn the rest of you about it in advance.

RE: AI. You know you're in trouble when the most likeable character in the movie is the bisexual male prostitute android.

Re: Shane
Remember the line (paraphrasing):"A gun is no better or worse than the man behind it"
That line has got to go.

"Re: Schindler's List (great film). Too bad someone can't re-do history and put guns in the hands of the millions of Jews who were herded like cattle to their slaughter."Actually, in his "new" version, Spielberg removes all guns from Nazi hands............and they fell Jews with harsh language.
Scene 21, Take 1, German camp guard:"Dumbkopf!!
Jewish concentration camp prisoner:"OY!!! AAAAAAAAUUGGGHHHHHH!!!!!".............ker-PFLUMPF..............

Why not edit the movie so that the Nazi's kill the Jews with World's Funniest Joke?

"The book was largely forgettable, but one thing that stuck with me was that, in the future, Clarke predicted a whole industry wherein movies will be digitally altered to remove any and all references to smoking. In the future, you see, we will have become so disgusted by the concept of smoking, that no one will want to watch an historic movie, unless the cigarettes were removed." Funny you should mention that... I was in a hamburger place a few years ago (Fuddrucker's), and as you walked in there was a large poster that showed a cowboy from an old western movie (at least that's what it looked like the picture came from) with some slogan attached. Said something like "They grill it, I top it..." or some such thing.
Okay, no problem there except for one thing - the cowdude in question was originally in the act of firing up a cigarette, but the cig and the match were airbrushed out of the picture. He still had his hands cupped in the way one would expect, lips pursed in that curious way one does when igniting a cig, even left in the dent in his lower lip - but no cigarette. Overall, the whole thing looked a bit silly.
It's as if some advertising wonk thought to himself: "I need an image that shows self-reliance and independence - kind of a take-charge, no nonsense sort of fellow. Hey, I have this picture here that I snagged from some old spaghetti western that would be perfect, except that he's lighting this foul cigarette! Damn, that won't do... I'll have to get this cleaned up by the ponytails in the art department. Yeah - that'll work."

Did anyone see South Park tonight? They blasted Spielberg for reediting his pictures to make the PC and "predicted" re-releases of Schindler's List and Raiders of the Lost Ark that portray Nazis as "people with political differences from you and me." The gang broke into Lucas and Spielberg's office and were captured by bodyguards firing walkie talkies, BTW.

It would really be scary if those federal agents looked like Janet Reno. 2 posted on 10/24/01 10:21 AM Pacific by 11th Earl of Mar

Except for that nagging little problem that the Nazis and Spielberg's Hollywood ilk don't have any political differences, ...oh, you mean that jewish thing? They'd be perfectly happy to substitute white male heterosexual christians in those "showers".

It is a little off topic...but in the PC world of Hollywood Disney is one of the biggest offenders of the 'guns are bad' crowd. Toy Story is one example...the two main characters are Buzz Lightyear (a hero from outer space, who fires a laser--that keeps being explained away as a blinking light bulb) and Sheriff Woody (an old west character) who (suprise!) sports empty holsters. Why are they empty? Did the little boy (Andy) play with them and loose them, misplace them? Oh no...in the PC world of Disnista Woody is an unarmed LEO.
I found this out one Halloween when my two youngest sons went trick or treating as Buzz and Woody...one of my neighbors commented that my Sheriff Woody had toy 6 shooters (that is another story--try and find a cap gun that looks authentic--found them at Wal-Mart though) but that the REAL Woody would never, ever, ever carry a gun...because guns are bad and THAT was the reason Disney left the holsters empty...Needless to say I told my neighbor that my little Sheriff was exercising his Second Amendment rights...LOL

What a lovely bouquet. As I understand it, that entire execution was staged for the journalists onhand.
