Of course, underlaying this false empathy is the vicious hatred harbored by the writer. He tries to use cynicism, sarcasm and labors hard to appear wry. Instead, he is a vicious fascist underneath who truly despises the working class that he is supposed to champion.
Ahh, but that's the wonderful thing about vanguardism a la Lenin - you get to tell all those unwashed working classes what to think, what to do, and how to do it, all without having to dirty one's own hands by actually associating with them. Heavens no.
I think it was Dave Barry who wondered why it is that "power to the people" so often seems to really mean "power to me and a few of my friends who know what's good for the people"...
