One reason your project might be necessary is the conversation I had with a lady at the airport a couple days ago who told me with great authority that those people at the World Trade Center buildings didn't jump, they were blown out

I totally believe that it could've been a possibility.

Something the Pappy dude doesn't understand is what I have seen which is very similiar to what you describe. It isn't pretty, but in my experiences, I was not a firefighter or EMT to have to freakin' witness it.

Fire can be eexplosive as it moves from room to room, and if you're hanging your head out of a highrise for some oxygen, you don't know what physical forces may do to you. It can be just what you mention.

TO the rest of the dorks that want to slam me on this thread, have you ever 'punched out' of an aircraft? If not, leave me TF alone!

Something isn't right about that picture though.... none of the ash that covered EVERYTHING..... not on the street beside the "hand" or on the hand... I don't think this is real.... what do you think?

I don't think that you have seen destruction, killing, and mayhem up close.

WHich is fine, I wish I hadn't. L8R, me

My point was that it won't help. Anyone who would "it wasn't that bad" when referring to the WTC or the Holocaust will not be swayed by a bunch of gory photos.

It does help. That is why there are Holocaust museums- some people still deny THAT. While the real nazi-loving types won't be convinced, they will continue to spew their misinformation until others begin to doubt, too. Look how often people are taken in by misinformation- we see it on FR, many people who mean well but have nothing to refute the propaganda. I know, because when I was in college, there was a class in which students would insist that some things didn't happen, were overblown, or weren't 'too bad.' Most students sat by and said nothing, no rebuttals. The prof went back to his office and returned with a stack of slides. Needless to say, after seeing all those, the mood was considerable more somber. The doubters couldn't refute it all. He pounded it in until some even apologized.

There is a legitimate reason to protect families. I know the feeling since reporters had filmed my dad on a highway for TWENTY MINUTES, as he stumbled aimlessly around with massive burns from a terrible accident, until a policeman showed up to pour cool water on him and try to get him help while traffic was cleared. But I wasn't angry about the pictures- I was angry the reporters hadn't lifted a finger to help him... to them his accident was just a fortunate coincidence which let them get some dramatic clips of an injured man, a fire, and a smoking corpse.

We don't need to plaster identifiable photos around, but records should be kept, for a time when people doubt the enormity of this, too.

The politicians have gone down to the site to try to grasp the magnitude of what took place and to a man they said they couldn't comprehend it until they saw it, smelled it, breathed the dust, and were overwhelmed by it. They weren't sickos because they went to see it; and it was important that they did see it, to steel their resolve for what lies ahead. What lies ahead will not be easy. It will be impossible if the average person's will is worn down or allowed to slip into complacency again.

You're right- I didn't scan their text, just got a glimpse of the stuff on the right side of their web page. But you are definitely right to say their politics stinks (it is worse than stink)... I am astounded to read some idiot's take on this:

Our response: "Heroes" did not boo Senator Clinton. This may sound like sacrilege, but most of the cops and firemen in this town are not heroes. They are working stiffs looking for a secure job from which they can retire in 20 years.

Good Grief! Maybe we should stuff the author into a coat and send him up into a burning building.

My guess is the photo was taken after one or both plane impacts, but before either building came down.

Actually, in one way, he's correct. We're (firefighters) working stiffs. Most of us make less than $50,000 a year. starting out, some make as little as $20,000. We raise our kids, go to work, and hope we come home safely. Personally, I'd much rather be in a burning building than working the night shift at 7-11.

We're proud of what we do, though, and I'm certainly proud of my brother fire fighters for booing Hillary offstage.

On another note, though, I picked up the same intellectual snobbery from him that I pick up on most college campuses. Try to convince a fire fighter of something, and he'll give you one h*ll of a debate if he doesn't agree with you. Try to argue with an intellectual, and they'll just sniff and lament that you obviously aren't smart enough to understand their enlightened opinion.

Oh, thanks I hadn't thought about it being "pre" building collapse.... I guess I didn't realize there was much time for that..... it definitely could explain why there was no ash.....

trapping people after WTC collapsed calling operator

They let the word out that it had been a hoax, but maybe you're right, except the story may have been garbled and 911 may have been called as they fell to their deaths in the collapsing debris, but by the time the operator came on there was no sound of life and cell batteries went dead in a couple hours at most, ending any search possibility of locating them alive.
The denial may have been carefully parced, saying no one talked with operators on the phone after the collapse. I don't believe the reporters asked the right question, was there a 911 call or calls and was there an open receiver at the other end.
When they let us hear the sound after the collapse there was the eerie sound of hundreds of crickets---the fireman locator signal on all those dead firemen going off at once.

Yes, Army people were ordered to go and look at the death camps at the end of WWII. They were ordered to go there by General Eisenhower. In fact, he ordered his own son to go there.
He stated that he was afraid that in time people would gloss it over or refuse to believe it, and that he wanted as many witnesses as possible so that it would never be forgotten.

I'm posting to myself again because I don't want to piss off any of you 'sensitive types' (are you listening AppyPappy).

Those bastards took down two great American skyscrapers, ripped a hole in the Pentagon, and damn near would have flown airliners full of fuel into many other targets. (Do any of you know just how many of the grounded flights had a potential suicide squad on them? Yeah, I didn't think so.) May the heros on Flight 93 be remembered for all eternity because they prevented what could have been an even worse tragedy.

I don't get off on gore, I would prefer sex, drugs, and rock and roll if you must know. (Do I fit your narrow definition of a conservative?)

This guy will NEVER FORGET!

It terrifies me every time I see it. But I too want to never ever forget how horrible it was.

It disturbs me also how our press keeps showing us enemy wounded and dead, but won't show us ours.

However, this is where I am really torn. I do not think I could bear to happen upon the mangled faces of my friends that were murdered there on the front page of a magazine, or on T.V. as if it were entertainment.

My sentiments exactly. I did not tape the events of 9/11 as they unfolded because I did not want to ever have to witness the horror of that morning ever again (I'm talking about the initial 4 hours of repeated coverage). After a few days the crash footage was dropped from broadcast and no more atrocities were shown. Instead coverage went to the cleanup/rescue efforts.

I agreed that no one should learn of their friends and family deaths by seeing the body on tv. I agreed that I would rather not see the grue nightly. I did state that all this would change when we started to kill the enemy and when the terrorists struck in other countries. I do not appreciate the double standard and see the left (and foreign press) using such photos (of our enemies) to muster support for the US-out peace stance.

If we cannot be exposed to the truths of the carnage in NYC, then I do not need to see the aftermath of other locales.

I had a very difficult time accepting the reality of what happened. Rationally and logically I knew it was true. Still my mind could not put all the pieces together into an understanding of the reality. Every aspect of the event was a mind repelling horror story in itself.

Hollywood in its wildest imagination has never come up with anything of this magnitude of horror. I admit that I watched over and over the internet videos of the planes flying into the WTC. It was as if I saw it one more time I could accept the reality.

It was (is) a very strange mind compartmentalization. I new it happened. I was saddened and outraged. I felt real pain for the victims, their famillies and all Americans. I knew the truth. I felt the truth yet some part of my mind keep saying "No, this can not be true."

Everytime I see a movie with the WTC towers standing tall I get a shock wave through my body. They stand in those images looking so tall, so proud, so invinceable. There are there. They are gone. They can't be gone. All those people. It happened. It could not have happened.

I ramble. The bottom line is that if the reality of these events is so horrible my mind wants to reject it all as fiction. The continued presence of those images of destruction is very usefull in keeping my mind focused on the fact that it is all real....all too real.
