Let me pose a devils advocate question. First of all we assume that no information would be released that would endanger an ongoing operation or peoples lives. Now the question. Does a free society or Free Republic as it were, deserve an independent accounting of our governments activities during times of war? If you don't want the press to bring you that independent accounting, then who?

I find it quite ironic that Freepers have a natural distrust of government except during a time of war. Can the government ever be trusted to always tell us the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?

I am all for accountability by our government, however when we are at WAR and I believe this is a real war, there are priorities paramount to our immediate need to know. Many of these questions can be answered later when our troops are out of harms way.

I also realize that some things may remain secret for many years, look at the cryptological intercepts the US & Britain had in WW II that helped us win the war. I distrust the government and did especially so during the Vietnam War but I still feel some things don't need to be made public right away. I am especially disappointed with the info being put out about investigations, usually that should be released after suspects are in custody or only when eliciting help from the public.

What value is it to the public to know when, where and how many of our troops landed in Aphganistan? When at war, let the warriors run it, not the PC crowd. Please take a look at history, especially of WWII and the importance of secrecy will become evident.

As another note, many are complaining about loss of our civil liberties. In a time of WAR, sometimes there will be a temporary suspension of civil liberties in order to preserve them for all of us at a later time. I don't plan on learning to speak Arabic, or giving up my religious freedom, how about you?
