Gorbachev has been living at the Presidio(sp) in a closed down military base in Cal. at tax payer expense. (that means you seabass1). He has been advising our goberment for the last ten years on what US military bases to close down around the world.

Nuclear and chemical disarmament and control over the remaining stockpiles must become a top priority, he said.
Let's take inventory. One, two, three ... a bunch. Yep, we have control of ours. Now are you sure what happened to your nukes, chemicals, anthrax and smallpox, Gorby? Call us back when you know.
He remains respected in the West
West = Berkeley. Everything else is just a bunch of right-wing gun nuts.

I know that here are a lot of people out there that still cast a wary eye in the direction of the former U.S.S.R. and her politicians and patriots. I argue with my fellow right-wingers all the time in support of our relationships with Russia and Mr. Putin.
I am in favor of taking any opportunity, as I'm sure many Russians are, to warm relatinions between our countries. They are new to democracy, armed heavily, have little infrastructure, tremendous natural resources, and have taken a very important step forward during this crisis. I feel this needs to be taken very seriously as an olive branch! An open dialogue and consistant compromises on BOTH sides may very well restore Russia as an ally as they were during WWII.
Call me a fool, but I can easily see how it could be a very beneficial friendship to both parties.

Even Fox News forgets that, while Gorby was Premier of the USSR, they operated, completely illegally, the world's largest biological weapons program and Gorby knew it. They had signed treaties saying they wouldn't, yet they had 25,000 people working on things like anthrax and smallpox. The man is an international criminal.

Although you invited me to, I won't call you a fool - we're suppose to avoid personal attacks on the FR. There is a timeless bit of wisdom that says "Never trust the Russians." Maybe someone out there can identify its author.

Gorbachev is still alive? Either that or the finger he keeps on the pulse of the globe just makes it seem that way.

Hmmm...if Mr. Gorbachev gives an interview to a journalist and nobody reads it, has he made a sound?
I'm pretty sure that people who are still influential in world affairs don't make Pizza Hut commercials. :)

"He urged politicians to remember the notions of solidarity and said developing nations must be helped to overcome poverty"......
It seems that Bill Clinton was saying just the same things the other day - I'll try to find the link......Gorby is going to have to box Bubba for King of the World!

Yep ... nothing like a "nobody even knows me in Kansas anymore" or a Viagra spot to rehabilitate the Collective's major players as harmless "has-beens".
