I don't understand jumping from the WTC. I am a fighter, and I wouldn't want to give up, ever.
I think many of them were just leaning further and further out the window as the flames got closer and closer. They eventually just fell out or decided that the fall was preferable to continuing to feel their flesh burn.

From some of the phone calls to loved ones, it wasn't just the heat from the fire - it was the overwhelming and choking smoke. They couldn't breathe, they couldn't see, and they had no idea how to get out.
If I learned anything constructive from this - I've learned to check where I am, where the exits are, where the stairs are, etc. Most of the time, if you can get to the stairs, you can alleviate most of the smoke
