Carl Cameron just reported that the ANTHRAX that was mailed to Daschle was natural spore, NOT enhanced, weaponized or modified in any way.

The Senators have all just been briefed by experts that it was potent, in that there was large number of spores by volume of powder, but that it was, quote, "Garden Variety" spores.

It was not the "floating variety that could spread through venitilation systems" that has been reported since yesterday.

Looks like Daschle caused a greater panic than warranted.

He's having a press conference in a few minutes, evidently to "revise and extend his remarks" from yesterday.

They were passing the notes around in NY and Florida and it didn't do this big a blow. They also state that "most" of the 29 were in his office. Meaning some of the 29 were in adjacent offices. Let's remember the story about the first guy catching it in a stream in North Carolina. The second guy only having a spore in his nose and no anthrax. Ernesto Blanco has been on Cipro for over 2 weeks, and on Monday had to have surgery to insert tubes into his lungs to remove the fluid. We are being spun.

I agree we are being spun. We have been spun since 9-11. I have been saying this since then. But there are two types here on FR that won't believe the obvious. First, you have a cadre of government shills who will spout off the government line and accept it as reality because it is their job to do so. Second, you have alot of people who just don't understand.

We have been spun on just about every issue since 9-11. From the Declaration of War Non-Issue; to the Coalition Issue; to the Form of Retaliation Issue; to the Anthrax Issue.

Cut the guy some slack. It is probably upsetting to have yourself and your staff contaminated with antrhax.

The guy who amazes me is Bush. I like the guy, but I will say that I have been pleasently surprised by him. He has been cool headed every step of the way. Even after two planes hit the towers his first statement was that it looked like "an apparent terrorist attack." Now that is being cool and not jumping to conclusions.

Also, is Bush the only government person who can talk recently without stumbling over his words? He gets up to talk and says everything perfectly. Then others get up and stumble threw what they have to say. Who woulda thought?

THe news media will always get it wrong first, then when the dust settles, the truth may trickle in...if I were the Bush administration and I wanted to keep the media busy, then this would certainly be one way to keep attention focused on matters that wouldn't be dangerous to our military staff overseas! He knows he can count on hysterical people in congress to blab out anything that may or may not be true!

I have heard others say exactly the opposite, that it was highly weaponized. Conflicting info for sure, but what amazes me is that people, when given two sets of contradictory data, will always give credence to the data that supports their "world view" of things. Some say we are now "being spun". I don't think so. I think they just jumped the gun at the beginning. It was concentrated anthrax, so the rumour was that it was "weapons grade".. you can't tell that so quickly without analyzing it.. upon further analysis, its just regular anthrax.. I dont see any conflicts here really. Just more refined information.

Of course, this COULD be a massive disinfo campaign, to keep us "calm", but then that gets us into conspiracy theories which, because they are non-falsifiable (any data to the contrary is just part of the conspiracy, can't you mind numbed robots think for yourselfs!!!), can never be disproven so are really not worth discussing rationally.
