Tonight I told my story for the first time of my sister's murder on FreeRepublic. It happened a number of years ago, and it is something that I go over in my head on a regular basis.
My respiratory care students had been working with her at Parkland from Day 1. One particular student had been assigned to her. Every other day she was talking about this Jane Doe that she was working with.
I told her even thou this patient of hers was not able to respond, she should constantly talk to her. Tell her what was happening around her, tell her the procedure she was about to do to her, tell her what the weather was like outside.
She did these things whenever she was assigned to Jane Doe.
Then came the evening I got the call from my father, "We've found your sister." After a brief description I realized I had been getting a day by day commentary on my sisters condition.
It took a little over a month for her to die. I for one, hold her love and concern in my heart. I keep a close eye on my nephew.
I am told constantly by antigunners, "If you ever had a family member killed, you would know what I'm talking about." Well guess what? I do know what you are talking about. I have had a sister killed, for no other reason than she was walking to work.
As she was walking to work on Maple Ave. here in Dallas, a couple of individuals pulled her off the street, robbed her, raped her, and beat the living sh*t out of her by repeatedly hitting her with 2x4's with 6" nails in them, time, after time, after time, after time,...ad nauseum.
As I try to point out to these individuals, every gun in the State of Texas could have been gone, and my sister would still be dead.
She left behind her a son, a young man that is intelligent, caring, and for me, a hell of a nephew.
One of my other sisters adopted him, and he will turn 12 on his next birthday. My sister has already told me, "I want you to teach him to shoot. Teach him to be safe and responsible with guns.

I am so very sorry about this, I only hope that this has helped you to talk about it with us. I can not even begin to know what you and your family and nephew have gone through but I can only say I am sorry and hope this makes you stronger and more dedicated to each other as a family. I am sure that is what she would want. God Bless you and give a hug to your 12yr old nephew for me. I also have a 12 year old son and I know how easy they are to love.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss.
You are unique. You have the ability to be emotional yet think clearly at the same time. I think that Americans have been learning a very sad lesson since September 11. Mass destruction can be wreaked without guns. I'm not just talking about the attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. I'm including the copycat crimes, including the Greyhound bus wreck in my state.
Gun control didn't help your sister. Gun control hasn't helped America. I am so sad for you and the rest of your family, and I am grateful for your reasoned view of the gun debate. God bless.

Hey Guido Paison, thanks for the feedback. God only knows the pain we went through. Being Catholic, our faith helped. Joshua, is an outstanding young Texan. I think he will do well. Thank You Sir for your thoughts.

So much evil in this world..... I am so sorry that your sister had to suffer, and that you and your family have to live with that knowledge. I hope that the love your family holds for your sister is reflected in your nephew - may he be a light in your lives.

A very sad story, prayers for you and your family, especially for your sister's kids. We need to fight the "evil doers" IN and out of this country. We are focusing lately on the outside terrorists but we hopefully will become as vigilant as those inside our country...the thugs who thrive on drive by shootings...looting and killing just for the sake. It's time we take our country back and say
WE'RE MAD AS HELL, AND AREN'T GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!!

Hey Katie,
My faith in America is reinforced by people like yourself. Don't standby and watch, do something. For too long the liberals have been telling us, "Don't fight back, someone might get hurt."
No sh*t Sherlock, 6,000 people got killed because they did what you said.
Thanks again, Katie, God bless you.

Headache,
Here is an Advil, take two and see me in the morning.
I truely appreciate your feedback. Mankind is what it is, no better, no worse than it wants to be. We all have a responsibility to each other, to watch out and care for each other. True, it may not be a legal responsibility, but it is a moral responsibility.

I am devastated simply by your account of this awful, awful event, I cannot possibly imagine what it has done to you.
My prayers are with you and your family.

I can't even imagine the pain your family is going through. May God grant you peace and healing, as well as the joy your sister wants you to have here before the circle becomes unbroken once again.

Feinstein has a right to her gun just as much as I do, yourself, and every other American citizen. The only problem is the State of California thinks some citizens are more equal than others.

So sorry for your loss. What happened to the perps?

Texasgirl,
I found myself stuck in a Franciscan monastery in Butler, Pa. many years ago, and decided it wasn't for me.(Great hunting country tho')
Faith is a gift from the Holy Spirit. Before my sister's death I lost my faith in God, after my sister's death I found it again. It was the last thing she gave to me before she went on that last journey.

I'm so sad to learn of this--especially since I lived in Dallas at that time, and recall reading about your sister. (I'm a nurse, too, so I followed the newspaper stories about her.)
The thing I would tell the "do-gooder gun-grabbers" when they make their idiotic remarks is that had your sister been armed, she would have had a chance to defend herself!

Dutchess,
You are so right. People are beginning to see, we are all responsible for our own personal safety. We should also watch out for the safety of our fellow Americans,(even the guys on the Democratic Underground). I have made a vow on the Altar of Almighty God, I will not stand by and see another fellow innocent American blugeoned, stabbed, shot, or injured in any other way without responding.(and if I'm fast enough preventing it.)
God bless America

God bless you and your family. I lost a cousin in a similar way seven years ago, and I never go for very long without thinking about her. In a lot of ways, it brought our family closer together, and I hope that your family has been able to do the same in these horrible cirumstances.

Paradox,
It made us stronger, and closer, and vigilant Texans. Thanks for your thoughts.

SKR,
I felt so much hate before her death, I felt it would eat me up. One evening I felt this hatred lifted from me, and I thought to myself,"I'll leave this in God's hands."
About 15 minutes later I received a call from my father that my sister had died.
I felt my sister made one last visit to me that night to put my soul at rest, and she did.
That was the night I regained my Faith.
