KENTUCKY DISHONORS VETERANS
Opinion | Myself

Posted on 10/10/2001 10:50:19 AM PDT by NMFXSTC

I am sure you are all aware of the importance of the POW/MIA Flag. This flag was designed to honor the 92,000 American servicemen who are still missing since WW 1. The flag is also intended to honor the families of those 92,000 servicemen. These families and other loved ones have no place to go to stand above the remains of their loved one, profess their love for them, begin the grieving process, nor start finding closure for their loss.

The POW/MIA Flag proudly flies above of thousands of city, county, state, and federal buildings and facilities. The flag also flies over tens of thousands of businesses and private homes. The flag is displayed on motorcycles, cars and trucks across our country.

The flag has no political, religious nor racial undertones. It is, as stated, displayed to say thank you and we'll never forget to our missing brothers.

I am ashamed to say that in Kentucky some politicians have determined that the flag is offensive .

In Lexington , KY., Mayor Pam Miller had the flag removed from in front of the City Hall, after it had proudly flown there , daily, since 24 Sept. 2000. The Kentucky Vietnam Memorial is the only Vietmam Memorial, in the nation, where the POW/MIA Flag does not fly daily.

When we asked Mayor Miller why the flag was taken down she stated that some people had complained and the flag was staying down. She refused to tell us who complained and why. Shealso said she didn't care how many e-mails, phone calls or letters she received it would stay down, because she was not running for re-election and didn't care.

WE CAN NOT LET THIS HAPPEN. THE FLAG MEANS TO MUCH TO TO MANY PEOPLE. TO MANY DEDICATED PEOPLE HAVE WORKED TO HARD AND DONATED TOO MUCH OF THEIR TIME AND RESOURCES TO GET THOSE FLAGS FLYING.

We are obviously dealing with a politician who through a lack of courage and integrity has allowed herself, and her values, to be compromised by some "anti-American" special interest group. I say "anti-American" because I can not imagine any person , or group, who would be offended by this flag at anytime, let alone during this time of national crisis.

Please take the time to pass this along and to send Mayor Miller an e-mail to show your feelings.

This is just the start. If she succeeds in having our flag removed, others like her, and those who complained, will continue to disparage and disrespect our men and women in the military.

Her address is, mayor@lfucg.com

Hmmm. Maybe every route to the Mayor's office should be festoooned with hundreds of MIA flags. Ever telephone pole should have the MIA flag image stapled to it, every stop sign, every single object in site. Pretty soon 'those' (more likely just her) who found the one flag offensive will realize it wasn't so bad after all.

When we asked Mayor Miller why the flag was taken down she stated that some people had complained and the flag was staying down.

She isn't running for re-election so why do the complaints of "some people" count but also is counter to what she says in the next sentence (see below)? Logic says she doesn't want the flag flying but also doesn't want to be responsible for her action (ie: blame the people who complained, not me)

She also said she didn't care how many e-mails, phone calls or letters she received it would stay down, because she was not running for re-election and didn't care.

Well, she says that but what happens if her fax is continually running, her phone is melting, and her e-mail box is full?

BTW: Get the people who WILL be running for her office on record as saying they are for or against having the flag flown and tell her good riddance.

Thanks for the flag e-mail sent. Snail mail on the way. I have also e-mailed the office of the Governor of Kentucky asking that he order the POWMIA flag flown there.

Thanks for the ping!

GGGGRRRRrrrrrrr! This woman is as unpatriotic as any I have ever seen! People that can not recognize the sacrifices that many made so that she can have the freedom to make this stupid decision don't deserve to represent diddlely squat!

BTW, Tonk, I don't think that I have properly thanked you for your service to our country.
THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE IN THE NAVY TO KEEP AMERICA FREE!!!;o)

Good grief, my spelling has deteriorated since I became a freeper, LOL.

Hmmm. Maybe every route to the Mayor's office should be festooned with hundreds of MIA flags. Every telephone pole should have the MIA flag image stapled to it, every stop sign, every single object in sight. Pretty soon 'those' (more likely just her) who found the one flag offensive will realize it wasn't so bad after all.

Further, she probably has a hatred for all things military, so I'd give her a huge dose of patriotism and make sure all she sees until she's run out of office is veterans and veteran's issues.

Even Middletown, CT flies the POWMIA flag at its memorials which happen to be in front of Wesleyan University.

I guess Kentucky might want to be ceded to Canada eh???

Apologies in advance I had to say it.

We have been fighting the POW flag issue in KY for years! The state refuses to fly it over the Vietnam memorial there and now the mayor has decided it's Offensive! We have contacted the governor, memorial committees, etc. and all turn a deaf and ignorant ear and attitude to us!

Done!

Anytime you write someone like this and tell them how you REALLY feel, don't forget to sign it "Sincerely"

Nothing pi$$es liberals off more than a "so F*CK YOU" letter that has a "Sincerely" at the end!
