As a American who also just happens to be of mixed-race background, I'm particularly distressed by the need of such people to lump anybody who doesn't look, talk and act like them into the "white" category. Because I don't look like Sister Souldjah, she thinks that I have no claim to an African-American heritage. It's all based on looks and possessions; nothing about the "heritage" she claims has ANYTHING to do with her hard-working, spiritual, patriotic, family-oriented ancestors. She's pandering an image that a she and her generation created, and she wants to cut out any one that don't "fit the mold".
My Great-Grandfather was a root doctor that taught healing and literacy; my Grandfather (considered to be "white") faced down the KKK in the rural South. They were the product of the best that the Native American, African American, and European American cultures could offer - the hope for freedom, and the triumph of the spirit.
Sister Souljah is a lie, and she deserves to be exposed for what she is. Her manufactured "heritage" is destruction, salaciousness, and violence, for sale to the highest bidder; that is NOT the true heritage of any American.
It all started with the make love not war mantra. Promiscuity and gayness is all about physical preferences like skin color and sexual orientations. We have been taught how to appreciate certain forms of appealing racism.
Re: Your #4: Agreed. Such as this................person................need to be shunned. The First Amendment gives her the right to spew her garbage, unfortunately, but that doesn't mean that the black community needs to buy it, either. They should boycott her "product" (and make no mistake; that's EXACTLY what this is: a "product"; an act; total "image".....because it plays to the lowest common denominator and
sells).
As for MTV, pure trash. It's not allowed on the TV's in my home, and I have a passle of teenagers. 'Sides, they hate it, too.
