They don't call them NYC'S Bravest for nothing.

These are amazing men who fight extremely dangerous fires in multistory buildings on a daily basis.

Even before September 11, anywhere from 1-4 or more per year would perish in the course of his duties.

Some of them are on the arson squad and carry weapons, chasing down arsonists and occasionally getting into gun battles with them.

God bless the NYC Fire Department, the only City institution that all New Yorkers have always respected and admired.

The fact that so many were lost when the WTC collapsed
-knowing full well that their chances of living through
the day were slim to none when they ran into the place-
but doing so anyway because it was their DUTY and their PRIDE
of doing the job- just proves that they fully deserve that description.
I salute them with the same respect that I give a fallen soldier.
They've certainly earned it.
