Okay, this is only a supposition:

Western homosexuality involves impersonal sex with hundreds of partners, including disease-spreading acts such as urination, defecation, and abrasive (bleeding) penetration.

Muslim homosexuality must be less promiscuous and more restrained.

Also, in Western societies, AIDS victims are treated like heroic saints. In Muslim societies, they're put to death. In Western societies, they're revered as martyrs. In Muslim societies, they're martyred.

I don't know how or whether they've escaped AIDS. One possibility is that most of the sex described in the article is "one way", a boy gets boinked by an older man and then boinks a boy when he grows up. Not the same dynamic as in a gay community, where there are many more "encounters" on many different levels.

Remember, no matter what the activity, the virus has to be present before it can spread. It's most likely off to a slow start, due to the insular nature of their society, but anal-sex is anal-sex and they can't escaped unscathed forever.

If this story is true --- and I believe it is --- then AIDS must come to them, slow but sure. And probably has, to a certain extent. And certainly it is covered up by the authorities.
