Cheney has served in his own way and done a good job.

I'm sure that Bill Clinton feels the same about himself. Look at the government. Vice-President, Speaker of the House, Senate Majority Leader, Senate Minority Leader, House Majority Leader, House Minority Leader, there isn't a single minute of military service among any of them.

I forgot President-Pro-Temp of the Senate. Byrd never served, either.

So what? What's your point? No military service ergo no ability to make political decisions about when to engage the military forces of the United States? I'm not buying that.

I agree that an increasing number of political representatives have no military service. It was inevitable when we moved to a volunteer military. I don't think that it serves us well in the long run but I am not sure what can be done about it. Cheney has my confidence for now.

Not true. Dashole served in the Air Force at SAC, in Omaha I believe, from 69-72. Bonior was an enlisted cook in the Air Force, even though a college graduate and was stationed in California from 68-72. He attended night school and got his masters degree while not cooking SOS.

You and I would probably agree that serving in Nebraska or California during Vietnam is a stretch as far as tough duty is concerned, especially considering where they could have been and I have my own opinion of "service" in the Air Force, but those two pukes are indeed veterans.
