Conservative columnist Ann Coulter, fired from her contributing editor perch at the National Review Online, blames it on free-speech hysteria in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks. In a recent online column, Coulter opined that the United States should respond forcefully to the terrorist attacks: "We should invade their countries, kill their leaders, and convert them to Christianity," she said. The comment provoked an uproar, and the National Review Online subsequently refused to run another Coulter piece in which she referred to "swarthy males." When Coulter complained, she was fired. Tuesday's Washington Post quotes Coulter as saying she doesn't need friends like that. "Every once in awhile they'll throw one of their people to the wolves to get good press in left-wing publications," she told the newspaper. National Review Online Editor Jonah Goldberg told the Post, "We didn't feel we wanted to be associated with the comments expressed in those two columns." Coulter told the Washington Post she's getting great publicity as a result of the flap.
I recall a John Stossel piece a few years back comparing the ease of doing business in Hong Kong compared to India. Very simple in HK - but it's a very small community compared to the US! And of course, we have all of those regulations to contend with, that I doubt they do.
If the freedoms that are culturally suppressed are those that in this country allow an image of the Virgin to be covered with feces or those that allow feminists and multiculturalists to go on a rampage then I think that maybe our society may not be superior to those East Asian societies. If what those countries suppress are those forces that attempt to destroy the society from within (read feminism, Marxism, Trotskyism, multiculturalism, etc.) then I say more power to them.
I'm not suggesting any society is superior to another. What makes ours a great country is that we are afforded the opportunity to discern for ourselves what is repulsive, whether it is "art", speech, film, etc. We can choose not to support the United Way because it funds abortions through Planned Parenthood. We can look at pornography or we can choose not to.
As much as self-righteous activists have worked unceasingly to twist and turn our Constitution to their liking (right of privacy equals abortion, freedom of speech includes flagburning, freedom of religion equates freedom from religion), they haven't broken it. Indeed, it's the very document that protects their opportunity to attack it.
Dubbed "one of the 20 Most Fascinating Women in Politics" by George magazine, Coulter is a frequent guest on political talk shows. She has appeared on ABC's This Week and Good Morning America, NBC's Today Show, Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher, CNN's Larry King Live, CNBC's Rivera Live, and Equal Time, among others. She also has been profiled in such diverse publications as the Washington Post, National Journal, New York magazine, TV Guide, Harper's Bazaar and Capital Style.
A graduate of Cornell University and the University of Michigan Law School, Coulter has worked as an attorney at the Center for Individual Rights, a conservative, public-interest law firm; served as legal counsel to Sen. Spencer Abraham on the Senate Judiciary Committee; and did a stint as an attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice. She also has practiced corporate law and clerked for the Eighth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals. A native of New Canaan, Conn., she currently resides in Washington D.C.

For a few years during HS and college, I was an outspoken atheist.
I'm thankful some folks had the compassion to "convert me" to Christianity. Eternity is a long time to spend in hell...
Yes, the owner has the right to run his property as he/she sees it.
Why, then, has everyone here got their shorts in a knicker over the owners of CBS, NBC, ABC and CNN exercising their ownership rights and allowing/encouraging their enterprises to broadcast liberal propaganda.?
Why do conservatives seem to enjoy shooting each other, and ignoring the larger enemy?
Thomas Paine for example quit the United States in disgust at the lack of proper revolutionary spirit. He headed to France where he supported the head choppers until he himself became a target.
IIRC, from a biography of Thomas Paine reviewed in National Review.
Last I checked, Christians believe God is a "trinity" and that one member of that unified trinity is a Man named Jesus Christ. Christians, therefore, believe Jesus was a Man, is now a resurrected Man, and is God.
Also, last I checked, Muslims reject that any man, including Jesus, could ever be God. They would wholeheartedly and resoundingly reject the statement: "Allah is Jesus."
Ergo, despite all this "Muslims and Christian worship the same God" talk, that simply is not the case.
In fact, it takes someone totally ignorant of both faiths to even say such a thing. Muslims and Christians do NOT worship the same God.
My God's name is Jesus, the Man of Nazareth. That a man should be considered God is a scandal.
Christians in Muslim enslaved countries are not protected under local endangered species laws as Muslims are here.
Perhaps Coulter did express herself less-than-clearly in the days immediately following sep11. But here's something from her that is a) very clear, b) very persuasive, c) directly concerning the next attack on America:
No they are NOT. They are limp wristed, puff brothers. Butt otherwise, very nice boyzzzz...silly!
Hmmm...Do you realize the philosophical floodgate you openned with that statement?
If Christians and Muslims worship different gods and God(s) are real and not just creations of Man's imagination to comfort them in their mortality.
Then there is, by your statement, two gods. And if there are two why not more.
A race? Exodus 20:3 The First Commandment...Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
...no other gods...
How could there be others if there is only one? Maybe that's why we've been led to believe that both are the same.
The alternative is more than many could comprehend.
Try this. If there is truely only one god. But two religions worship seperate gods. Then wouldn't one be false?
Which one?
But then they don't really believe in God, do they???
They don't have the sort of belief that is defined as saving faith in God, however this doesn't mean they could not believe God exists etc.
The Bible tells us that even the demons believe.
Which one cannot be proven...that's where faith comes in...
You should be so lucky, Johah! You and your mom are a pair walking PC snobs...What a mama'a boy, sheesh!
You have perfectly analyzed this.
There are other "gods," but by the definition of the word itself, only one can be GOD. Anything less than the Supreme Being is not God.
For me to say that Muslims and Christians do not worship the same God, I used the G__ in deference to the one true God, the man Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, in unity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
As you say, one is not truly God. One is at best a "god," and more likely, a mistake.
Again, your analysis is accurate.
