Such posturing is its own reward to them
Speaking of rewards, I had a sudden insight today that I'd like to share with all of you. How much of the leftist/socialists' rabidity in the past two weeks has been based on pure and simple jealousy ?
Remember, these are people who have a cause - sometimes, many causes - and to them, the world would be "a better place" if only everyone else just believed in the cause (and donated a chunk of cash) as well. In fact, I believe that it is this lack of cold, hard cash support that shapes their view of America as one of a selfish, capitalist, and (most of all) unfeeling nation that just wants to 'grind the Poor under its collective heel.'
Now, think of the humanitarian outpouring of love and concern in the wake of 9/11. Think of the one-half billion dollars raised, in two weeks. The tractor-trailer loads of food that had to be turned away from Ground Zero - because it would spoil before it could be used. How unselfish is that? How unfeeling?
Since they know that they won't be able to get their hands on the money, nor be able to capture the emotions of the people in such a way, I think it just inspires them to hate good people even more.

Mass charity, spontaneously and freely given, is anathema to the left's desired consolidations of state power - ostensibly for the purpose of doing such noble deeds.
