It looks like it would be very effective against tailgaters. Is there a hardware kit to mount it on a Mustang? :-)

Cool concept, limited practicality for the foreseeable future.

The GAU's that the UH-1N used to carry could fire upto 4,000 rounds per minute. The ammo can's, which were large, heavy and took a long time to load would be out in less than a minute at that rate.

Firing it was cool, and it did a good job of spreading hate and discontent amongst those on the recieving end, but firing rate needed to be carefully controlled in order for ammo to last the duration of the mission.

O'Dwyer has filed for at least 58 patents on the invention, and the U.S. and Australian militaries together have put up roughly $50 million for further research

I'll bet.

Meanwhile, other military uses for the technology could include installing it aboard robots to clear the way for ground troops or aboard jets to provide protective cover for reconnaissance planes.

I've seen everything but last ditch incoming missile defense system, something like Vulcan Phalanx. Talk about putting up a wall of lead, projectiles, what have you.

And, if the gun wasn't calibrated just right? If it had some dust or dirt from the war field? Water? Cold?

Talk about an ugly accident....

I just knew that something practical would come from watching "Junkyard Wars".

Can you imagine if we had this baby at Gettysburg?

Maybe we could line up approx. 400 terrorists in a straight line and see how many this baby will go through in 10 seconds. Just a thought.
