In the days following the tragic events of September 11, 2001, I surfed the internet trying to find some way to help in the relief efforts. I found many people who, for one reason or another, were unable to donate blood or money, but wanted to help in some capacity. I also found an incredible amount of poetry that people wrote to help try to make some sense of their feelings. It was while I was reading through the beautifully written, heart felt poetry that I got an idea: Why not compile these poems into a book, and donate the proceeds of the book to the various agencies that are aiding in the relief efforts? Thus, Poems 4 America was born.
There are several ways to contribute to Poems 4 America. I am currently accepting poetry that was written about September 11, 2001 from anyone who is willing to submit their work. The individual authors will retain all of the rights to their poems. Since the book is a collaborative effort of many different authors, I dont feel like I should be the one to chose the title. So, I am holding an essay contest to decide. The winner of the contest will have their title chosen and the winning essay will be included in the book. I am also currently accepting offers from any interested publishers.
Please visit www.poems4america.com to find out more information or to submit your work. It is my sincere hope that people who were at a loss as to how to contribute to the relief efforts will find an outlet in participating with this cause. Thank you and God Bless America!
Thanks!
