For the third time in a month Rush mentioned the e-mails about his voice change. He said "There is nothing wrong with my voice. You people should have your radios repaired or buy a BOSE unit". Rush is bugging me too. This is my first post please be kind.
Thurston Rushy the Third.
Hey kids, I have a wonderful idea. Why don't we 'dis' Rush? OK?
Now back to our regularly scheduled whining!
Now that the important stuff has been addressed, regarding Rush's voice:
Rush has periodically mentioned that some stations were using a device to slightly speed up his broadcast in order to get in a few extra commercials. He says that this has caused his speech to sound slurred to some listeners. Sounds plausible to me. Of course, the plot of "The Castaways on Gilligan's Island" also sounded plausible to me.
At least I know I'm not crazy...everyone else is hearing the same thing, LOL!
I contacted my local station (which I used to work for) last week, and the next day he sounded better, though still low.
I called again and spoke with the program manager, who told me it was a transmitter problem (at their station) and he had his engineer out listening in his car to figure out what the problem was. Apparently it was sounding fine in the studio and bad outside the studio.
However...I would suggest it may be due to electronics from the satellite feed, from Rush's end. Again, the promos sound normal (which were recorded months ago from the same satellite feed, but are played real-time direct from the radio station equipment). The satellite feed sucks, I'd bet you. One way to tell: compare someone ELSE'S voice on the same feed...since Rush rarely has guests, can anyone tell if any news clips sound "slow" as well? (I can't listen much during the day.)
Rescue From Gilligan's Island (1978)
The castaways must try to readjust to life in civilization after they are rescued from the island.
The Castaways on Gilligan's Island (1979)
The Castaways finally get permanently rescued and they turn their island home into an exclusive resort.
The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island (1981)
The staff of the island resort need the aid of the Harlem Globetrotters to keep their island from a greedy millionaire.
The only saving grace in this whole nightmare is that the pseudo-anonymity of FR offers some buffer to my deep shame. If the folks I hung out with in college ever got wind of this...well...I shudder at the thought.
You mean like in "The Invasion of the Body Snatchers", or something?
Yes Rush has sounded very different lately, totally agree with the others about the attempt to sound like Buckley. Either something is really wrong with his voice, he's pulling some sort of gag, or he's flat out lost his mind.
If he's playing a gag, pretty stupid. I've listened to Rush for almost 10 years, sometimes every day, depending upon the crisis at hand. In the aftermath of WTC, his smarmy attitude was really irritating and I decided to tune out.
Rush, whatever the issue is, get it taken care of. It's not just the voice...
BITTEN!!!
:)
Without having seen anything about the change, I noticed too...I wasn't sure if it was HE!!! I hadn't listened for awhile...how long has it been different?
His voice is lower, slower and very tired sounding. I proved this to myself the other day when he had a replay of something on his old TV show. The difference in the voice was amazing and very sad.
I noticed the same thing too. Something is very wrong here. This just can't be Rush.
There we are! It doesn't sound like Rush; it sounds like a bad impersonation of Rush. So maybe it is? Or he has been replaced by an evil replicant, or a space alien .... :-)
