Heck Sam, after the past two weeks I'm ready to sign up for a National ID card that contains my DNA! I have nothing to hide, and I'd like to try eliminate the terrorists from stealing identities........

Do you every read WorldNetDaily? Do you not realize that they are being sarcastic with their regular section entitled "Your Papers Please?"

I can't believe that you have been here at FR so long, and have Dr. Keyes on your homepage here, and have yet to figure out that the most unique thing about American government is that because we recognized that unalienable rights exist, we place explicit limitations upon government. You are advocating that the ends justifies the means. You are playing into the hands of fearmongers who are using this time of trouble to RUN to implement all kinds of things that 3 weeks ago could NEVER have been implemented. What evidence do you even have that such a system would work at stopping terrorism? NONE. And it can't be done quickly either. Or noninvasively, because I guarantee you that if I were a terrorist, I would be sure to sign up as many fake names as I could right away while the system was still soft; and then, with a "safety card" everyone will trust me and I can get away with anything! (Next, since you have nothing to hide of course, you will want implanted IDs to make it harder for a simple individual to use more than one ID).

If you permit this lapse into fascism, it will never go away and will be more and more and more abused. Where is your courage?

I read my reply #24. A Citizen Reporter, #24 above is too harshly worded - sorry. I am just frustrated that so many Freepers, not just you, seem to have no problem with a National ID after all the fighting we have done to stop it. Please do not take it personally - it really should be addressed generally. Sorry.

Plus, the terrorists will just have fake ones made. Anything that can be made, can be forged!

I smell a whole new cottage industry brewing, American Regress – Don’t get caught without one!

One benefit of a National ID card would be much less voter fraud, which I think would generally work in the favor of conservatives.

And given that they dont currently require a drivers license prior to voting why do you presume that they would suddenly mandate that some other form of id be produced.

The solutions here are simple. Better control on immigration a refocus on actual crime instead of using ATF agents to go on redneck hunting expeditions and a withdrawl from the petty wars of the third world.

I actually read one post advocating a mandatory ID for all aliens, but FORBIDDING any identification of citizens.

Some people just do not bother thinking out the consequences of their ideas.

"I am 100% in favor of a national id card. Maybe it will help slow down the entire Mexican underclass from moving to California."

How's that?

It'll be six months on the outside that the left demands that we issue them to illegals, just like they've managed to do with drivers licences in some parts of the country.

"No national ID card? No job. It would be one of the most effective ways to curtail illegal immigration imaginable."

And, of course, once this IS in place, there will NEVER be some future maladministration (like Clinton's)which would misuse it, right?

"Hey, Al, dude, those damn radical CHRISTIANS are blabbin' about that hummer I got from some intern. Call John over at HOMELAND DEFENSE and tell him I want those folks to FEEL SOME PAIN. He'll know what to do. A few months of missed mortgage payments will shut 'em up!"

An enlightened tyranny DOES NOT have to station a machine gun toting storm trooper on every street corner.

History teaches that populations -- especially such as those now emerging from the GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS -- are easily controlled with DOCUMENTS:

No FOOD COUPONS? No food!
No TRAVEL DOCUMENT? You don't travel!
No WORK PERMIT? NO JOB!

You get the picture.

And modern technology has made it possible to do all these things with a single document -- say a NATIONAL ID CARD!

"Necessity is the plea of every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves." (William Pitt, 1759-1806)

If a national ID can secure our physical safety.

Why the hell stop it.

If "if's and but's" were candies and nuts,
We'd all have a Merry Christmas.

It's president@whitehouse.gov Vote.com had a vote on this last week. Everytime you vote (you can only vote one time per vote) your vote is mailed to the politicians. The lastest is ARE CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS BEING TRAMPLED IN THE NAME OF PATRIOTISM? and my vote is being mailed to the president, my representative and both my senators.

Bubba doesn't need one to roll his pickup from the saloon to his trailer park. It appears that none of these characters have ever waited in line to get into or out of a foreign country.

I am 100% in favor of a national id card. Maybe it will help slow down the entire Mexican underclass from moving to California.

Mexicans can get in because of NO inforcement of current laws. Whats the use of a little plastic card if the laws that govern our borders are not inforced in the first place?

The idea of a national ID card is absurd. It is just another form of harassment not to be endured by Americans. Such was the social security card and look what it has become. We do not need to accept this idea of safety at any cost.
