18 Wheel Advisory - From Sierra Times.com

Sierra Times Update
For Sat 09.22.01 17:00 Sierra Time

This is a Sierra Times Advisory:
18 Wheels Advisory from Sierra Times.com

Sierra Times has received information that dictates a cautionary advisory requesting that all drivers following these instructions carefully:

1) Drivers hauling petroleum (all grades) or displaying HazMat placards should not leave their destination without radio in working condition on CB Channel 19.

2) All truckers while on the road should request positive identification of all drivers hauling petroleum (all grades) or displaying HazMat placards upon discovery.

3) Failure to obtain positive identification via radio should be followed by:

a) Visual identification of driver. b) Calling said driver to pull over peaceably while contact law enforcement. c) A box-in/rolling road-block maneuver of said freight hauler if the need arises, forcing driver off the road until authorities arrive. Take all precautions to avoid active engagement, and work under the conditions that said driver may be willing to sacrifice himself as well as the vehicle. Use your best judgment.

4) Be on the lookout for any freight hauler passing open scales at high speeds.

5) All drivers should conduct a walk around when leaving and re-entering their vehicle. Look for foreign objects placed around fuel tanks, tires, etc. Also be cognizant of unsavory characters lurking about parked rigs and truck stops, rest areas, freeway stops, etc.

6) As an over-the-road driver, you know what other issues to look for even better that we do. Please discuss other security measures with fellow truckers during stops.

7) This message should be distributed to all trucks stops, and fuel stops along Interstate and U.S. Highways.

Keep in mind the heroes of Flight 93 who took immediate action without waiting for the blessing of authorizes. Their actions may have saved the lives of thousands. At anytime, any American may find himself or herself in a similar situation. Despite the policies of your freight carrier or the several states, Sierra Times strongly suggests that all drivers be ARMED during this period. You may find yourselves as a potential target, as enemy operatives may consider your livelihood as a potential weapon. Lack of any counter-measures on your part could quickly escalate into a threat to national security.

So the paranoia aims at the truckers.... I don't think that terrorists know how to even drive a big rig.
This is just plain SILLY.
Next thing we'll see is car drivers looking out for other "suspicious" drivers and call into the police, or force other drivers off the road until police arrive.
This is America the land of the free, not a KGB Soviet spy state.
Gimme a break.

Would you consider an Airliner a "Big Rig"?

how silly can it be, when at least one of the guys in custody or dead in the terrorist attack has a CDL, or Commercial Drivers Liscense, which means he can drive anything from a dump truck to an 18-wheeler?

a bit paranoid? yes, and a good thing... silly? certainly not, my friend.

keep sharp, they're right here among us.

good point! if these characters were LISCENSED PILOTS, then the silly part is thinking they don't know how to drive a rig! (no offense to truckers)

Yea, we all know it is much harder to drive a semi than it is to fly a 757...

Tell that to the troops in Saudi that died when a truck bomb went off nearby. The audience in the graveyard will be quietly attentive.

And we didn't know they could fly a plane into the WTC. Thank God all of us in OH aren't so du naive.

This is not paranoia, it is wanting to keep our truckers safe.

At least one of the terrorists was licensed to drive big rigs and was certified for carrying hazardous materials.

Try to keep up.

Heads-up Jason (honestly)!
One of the fellows that is now in FBI custody had obtained training and a license
to drive large commercial vehicles.
I think the news reported in the last couple of days that that this fellow was working
in a convenience store in the greater Chicago area when he was recently picked up.

Jason, these cats all think they can get 70 virgins and all the hasish they want if they
simply martyr themselves.
I don't think their leaders are disappointed if they use a loaded tanker trailer
(maybe with a McVeigh-style bomb, not diesel fuel) to do something like what happened Sept 11.

These people hate our guts and are fanatic about martyrdom. They'll do anything.

If you can drive a car, you can handle a big rig. Many new rigs have automatic transmissions, so shifting, though good to know, is not required.

Besides, as stated previously, a 757 is not a Cessna and is much harder to deliver to a destination.
