President Bush called for other nations to turn over the terrorists, once they are caught, but his speech to all the world did not specifically indicate TO WHOM OR TO WHAT ENTITY the terrorists, or their supporters, should be surrendered for trial and a measure of justice. That is a very important question.
If the crimes or acts of war were committed against Americans on American soil, as they were on September 11th, then it is my belief that the United States has venue and jurisdiction over these individuals.
If, however, we leave this question open for others to decide, then we may find that justice will be doled out in some international court, such as the ICC, the International Criminal Court, or some other court of the United Nations.
I do not believe that the past record of the United Nations has brought much peace or much justice and I would be reluctant to even recognize the United Nations as the entity to assume any role in the acts committed on September 11, 2001 in New York City and Washington, DC.
Again, President Bush and his speech writers overlooked a point that deserves specific clarification, for at this juncture we are not sure of just who is involved and who is supporting these terrorists. The vicious attacks were made against Americans on American soil, and that is important to remember.
