Where were the cabbies on September 11?

I haven't heard anything about this anywhere else...I was listening to the Howie Carr show yesterday. A female caller spoke to Howie about the taxi drivers in New York on September 11th. She claimed that a friend of her's in New York attempted to hail a cab in the vicinity of the WTC (prior to the attack) but was unable to do so...because there weren't any in sight. The friend told this woman that many of the cab drivers called in sick that morning prior to the attack. Is this true? Can any New York Freepers verify this?

It is nearly impossible to get a taxi anywhere in town at that hour of the day. So while the person may have stood there looking for a cab, there is nothing sinister in the fact that she didn't see one. She really thought she'd have no trouble finding a cab at the southern end of Manhattan between 8 and 9 in the morning? Are we sure she really lives here?

Sounds a bit hysterical to me. I heard many Arab cab drivers were staying home in the days AFTER the attack, but nothing about drivers calling in sick before. Also, I don't know where this runor that all cabbies are Arabs got started--they come in all nationalities.

Pretty funny, the Pakistani cabbie terrorist connection. The last group of WTC bombers included some NYC hacks. They said they were frustrated driving cabs because there was only a limited amount of damage and havoc that they could wreak.

What I am more curious about is: How did Clinton get back into the United States so quickly? He was in Australia when the terror attack occured, the federal goverment grounded all commercial flights and several days passed before commercial flights were allowed to land in the U.S. I haven't seen anything in the media to explain this... since I live in Mexico I'm aware of quite a few people who had plans to fly to the U.S. but were unable to travel by commercial air until the 16th of September. Did Clinton arrive back in the U.S. at that time?

Also, if I remember correctly, the article said that the first leg of Clinton's return journey, an eight hour flight to Guam, was spent in a windowless section with nothing but a mesh hammock to sit in. I'd love a picture of that.

I don't know about that. I was in Chicago with some friends. Our hotel doorman hailed a cab for us. The Middle Eastern driver raced up to the curb, slammed into another car with a crash, hopped out, opened the door ... so we got in and went off to dinner.

This is false. I saw a woman on Fox who escaped the WTC collision and hailed a cab to north Manhattan... where she watched the collapse occur on TV.

He flew back on a military flight.

In an interview on Fox News, he claimed that he arranged it himself.

I'm not sure if the Bush administration sent the plane, or if the junior Senator from New York pulled some strings for him. If it was the Senator, this needs to be investigated and any ethics violations need to be followed up on. However, I'd bet it was the Secret Service, with the cooperation of the Bush administration.

Still, if anybody has any information, I'd like to know too.

What would be so surprising if a bunch of arabs knew and didn't tell? Can anyone cite ANY instances of arabs turning other arabs in?

They can't even convert from Islam without receiving a death sentence from their own. There should of been cabs dropping folks off - why weren't there?
