Condit Tours Twin Tower Disaster Site (GAG ALERT!)

House Intelligence Committee security risk Gary Condit toured Manhattan's Twin Tower disaster site Wednesday, in a visit deliberately kept secret from most of the press.

"Several members of the House Intelligence Committee, including Condit, arrived for a close-up look, and city officials showed them around the scarred streets and piles of rubble," sources told the New York Post.

Condit's visit was "kept under wraps," the paper said, in contrast to the highly publicized visits of most other public officials and dignitaries.

Mayor Giuliani was hosting French President Jacques Chirac for his own tour of the World Trade Center disaster, and did not meet with Condit or other Intelligence Committee members.

In August, House Minority Leader Dick Gephardt announced that he would consult with his colleagues on removing Condit from the sensitive post -- after many expressed fears that his continued access to the nation's top secrets make him highly blackmailable.

Last week congressional leaders complained that the Bush White House was limiting the information it was sharing with Congress about a planned military response to last Tuesday's attack.

But with secrecy at a premium as President Bush plans America's war on terrorism, Gephardt's failure to take care of his party's "Condit problem" may be behind the White House's decision to play things close to the vest.

Whatever happened to all those fascinating Condit/Chandra threads? You know, the ones that usually started with an article from the National Enquirer or Drudge, with the ubiquitous "unnamed sources" supplying juicy info. I miss all the nutty rumors -- Condit's homosexual proclivities, his secret body dump site's, his wife's missing thumbs (clearly visible in a People Magazine cover, by the way), etc.

Looks like the folks at FR are all growed up now and talking about real news.

When a PATHETIC EXCUSE for a congressman has to be hidden from the press because he is still on the House Intelligence Committee and SHOULDN'T BE that's news!
