Basically, your attitude smacks of Neville Chamberlain, who dismissively abandoned Czechoslovakia as a "far away place we know little about". As it turned out, Hitler wasn't done once he'd taken the Czechs, and Britain found itself on the back foot when war did finally come.

It is very easy these days to put all the blame on Chamberlain, but it took about 10 months of work by the Foreign Office folks and the Anglo-Saxon media to work up the masses against the "monster Czechs" who were discriminating (cracking down) against "ethnic Germans" in Czechoslovakia who were only "fighting for more rights", including the right to use only their language, etc.

As usual, The Times etal. pulled through and Chamberlain was widely acclaimed as a hero (for a while).

Well the Establishment was wrong, Churchill was right. And Churchill got us out of the mess.

Appeasement is a bad idea - for forever.
