Ah, pretty weak. Christians are compelled to obey the New Testament. The old testament, in itself, is not the christian religion.

I would agree.
(However, a lot of Christians would not...)
But, as I said, for a LONG part of the last 2000 years, the Old Testament was given at least as much weight
as the New (depending on what the "teacher/leader" wanted to justify) by Christians.
And, as I understand it, it is closely related to the Jewish Talmud/Torah...and the Jews do not acknowledge the
New Testament as being from a prophet of G*d (Jesus Christ) at all (apologies in advance if I am mistaken).
They base their religion off of the teachings of the Old Testament prophet Moses (more apologies).
Point being, religious writings of most of the major religions can look (or be made to look) quite ugly.
A lot of evil has been done in G*d's name.
I doubt that He approves of any of it.

Here is my opinion. I think that America was founded by Christians on Christian principles. I think that America was the most thoroughly Christian nation yet seen in History. I think America failed in some respects where she departed from Biblical principles, but overall I explain the source of America's prosperity and America's individual liberties as coming from Christianity. I explain the slavery & poverty & suffering in India & Pakistan & Afghanistan & Africa & Asia by the fact that they follow false religions that produce ugly societies. Jesus Christ and Christianity are the hope of the world IMHO. Bob.
