We're all stoked and ready for war now, but what about Americans' attitudes if this is prolonged, which it most likely will be? It seems Americans have become so spoiled and self-centered lately, and expect instant gratification. If we aren't "gratified" within a month's time, what will happen? Will the younger generations lose interest and exhibit a repeat of the anti-Vietnam sentiments? I hope that we truly ARE as strong as we seem to be now, and committed to do the right thing no matter how long it takes. I'm so proud of my niece and nephew, who are ready and willing to enlist if it comes to that. They're in their 20s, and their parents "did good" instilling a sense of patriotism. Hope it's nation-wide.

Absolutely not. There is a major difference between the current situation and Vietnam. Vietnam truly divided this country. Nearly 30 years later, the wounds still remain. Even the most hawkish and conservative among us can cite reasons why we never should have gotten involved in Vietnam. Vietnam never posed a risk to America. Fighting the commies in Vietnam had no bearing whatsoever on our national security.

However, you can be assured that if the Viet Cong had sent kamikaze terrorists over here to hijack our planes and slam them into skyscrapers and military installations, killing thousands of innocent civilians, the rubble in Vietnam would still be smouldering today.

The burning twin towers of the WTC will be forever etched in the minds of America. Like Pearl Harbor, the events of last Tuesday will be a rallying cry throughout the conflict and our resolve will never weaken. Victory will be final and absolute over this enemy. The vast majority of our countrymen will demand it.
