How is it loony? 3 men saved hundreds of lives the day they gave theirs. If 3 men on each of those planes did the same, how many thousands would be alive today? Doesn't matter if they knew what the planes were being used for... if a few men with knives threaten 60 people, it's only logical that they could easily be overpowered.. Consider the fact that one of the people who did respond in such a manner as you described probably exacerbated the problem. When the terrorists were reportedly killing stewardesses to get the pilots to come out.... If they hadn't responded in your mode, perhaps their plane would not have been commandeered. But that doesn't fit your scenario. Sorry to muck things up with the facts.
