But the debate over details is pointless. We can not trust the government over this any more. Allowing the government to license a right is setting the stage for incrementalism. It's the governments responsibilty to make sure it's possible for a citizen to be well armed and able to shoot straight, says so in the second amendment ("well-regulated"). Anything else is an infringment.
It is now an absolute established fact that there are worse things a hijacker can do than take a planeload of people hostage and kill them off one by one. There are worse things than rushing the hijacker and causing a planeload of casualties. This was always true; Now no one may say it's hypothetical.
I do agree however with letting people go through the Sky Marshall training and investigations (if you can be a sky marshall, pass through their training, etc). Let volunteer citizens be "deputized" for every flight.
