MSNBC's Frank Lutz just conducted a poll, which has 80% approving of Bush, 8% not. 80% also approving of force to retaliate, again 8% against.
This isn't the time to go full bore against the President.Yet, so many fringers are doing just that , these past two days. You can NOT call them " his father's advisors ". In case you really haven't noticed, his father has been out of office for a long time. Would you rather that he had chosen those who advised Clinton ?
Many past presidents have called on those who served in previous administrations. If they are sound people, with proven track records, what exacyly IS your problem here ?
Don't you hold back, Howlin. Please.
We just had AMERICANS killed on AMERICAN SOIL - and people are taking up for those arabs? Unbelievable.
And poor Taliban is calling for mercy? Don't make me laugh! Lie down with fleas, expect flea powder.
Like they say in the military - TAKE NAMES, HOWLIN! Those traitors need to be run out of here. They puke up the place!
Rather is still a puke.
Amazing how many so-called conservatives have become Clintonized in expecting RHETORIC rather than action. We want words like "dogs" "murderous scum" Blah Blah.
Bush is not given to hyperbole, EVER. He is not an emotional, bite-your-lip guy. His use of the term "folks" IS about as nasty as he personally gets in his language. Think of Lincoln, who seldom, if EVER, used strong language either to attack Confederates OR slaveholders. Indeed, Lincoln is the perfect comparison to Bush, insofar as his speeches were unemotional when given---flat and bland. Yet when read, over the years, contained immense power. If you read the text of Bush's speeches, they are QUITE powerful.
Now, as to where the president was, I hope you feel quite foolish. The evidence now is that Bush told his advisors that he was not going to let a "tinpot terrorist" keep him from going to Washington, yet at that VERY TIME, the Secret Service had good information that Air Force One was targeted and that the terrorists knew the location based on code words that came through the communication. In that circumstance, it's plain silly to "go back to Washington" to be a figurehead.
These comments reflect the total Hollywoodization and Clintonization of the presidency and what people now expect it to be, rather than the effective executive that the Constitution intended it.
I have a few random thoughts & questions not worth starting a thread for, so this is as good a place as any.....Since the election, I believe we have seen an unprecedented level of the trashing of our government, not by our own citizens, but by members and representatives of our own government who have gone record against our government in words and actions (i.e. our "illegitimate" president, the "stealing" of the election by a corrupt SCOTUS, the rhetoric of the racebaiters, the true die-hards doing everything possible to undermine the administration of President Bush, & on & on & on).
One wonders if this would have happened had the usual suspects expressed total support for our government once the election was over. The message has gone throughout the world that we are a divided nation. Hell, they (dems) are still counting votes in Florida.
THEY WANTED TO ASSASSINATE THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!!!!!!
(emphasis, not yelling) My God, what more does it take? And yet, I found mysellf wanting to bitch-slap (sorry) Helen Thomas along with many of the WH press corps. Our President was the target of an assasination attempt and Ari Fleischer is constantly being challenged to "prove it."
Many of the dems (and RINO's) I detest have risen to the call. It doesn't mean I suddenly like them, just that they have done the right thing. But there are many I have not heard from. Jesse Jackson, Al Sharton, Alan Derschowitz (?sp), Carville, McAuliffe, Gore, Waters, Boxer, Feinstein. It is important to know if they have stepped up to the plate or if they have remained silent. Have they just been ignored by the media or are they silent?
30,000 was the figure I heard last night. 30,000. I had to visualize being at a sold out baseball game and having almost 2/3's of the fans disappear and my mind still can't grasp it.
This is not a time for politics, all I want to know is if these people have gone on record as supporting our president or if they are waiting to see what way the wind blows.
People now expect our national leaders to pause in the midst of a crisis to say something that might make them feel better, regardless of whether or not their words are germane to the situation.
People now expect total public access to every detail that leads to every decision regardless of the consequences of publicizing information.
People now expect strong words followed by inaction or minimal action. They are not convinced that the man in the oval office means EXACTLY what he says and that his words are carefully chosen for their obvious meaning. (As opposed to being carefully chosen for a variety of possible meanings.)
Lastly: it has been so long (WWII) since the United States has actually used terms indicative of WAR that the American people are not fully aware of the gravity of that term and how carefully it should be used. WAR indicates a declared constitutional condition in which the President is given greater power as Commander in Chief. WAR indicates a legal situation which OBLIGATES our allies. WAR indicates a sustained action as opposed to limited stand off surgical strikes. WAR means that more Americans will die.
I am proud of President Bush and the way he has handled himself. He had more important things to do Tuesday than stop to talk to me. Our country was under attack and he and his team moved immediately into locations where they could communicate and respond appropriately. AF1 and STRATCOM are highly capable command centers and I for one find it more than appropriate that our CinC was at a safe military command center instead of his offices. (Which were not coincidentally under attack).
It wouldn't do for any of these Bush haters to express their sentiments in front of me right now - they'll have to get their jaws wired back up.
Spot on assessment--except I'd change it to Clinton Democrat. Any decent American with an inkling of a soul, even a Democrat would be enraged to the point of beating the crap out of any one around them that would make such stupid, baseless statements at a time when thousands of innocent Americans suffered an horrendous death and when the lives of millions of innocent people are scared forever. If this person had any decency he wouldn't have posted the supposed "perspective" of those sick, wacked out, perverted pals. Even worse is that people like Peter's Lemmings on the major networks are still taking cheap "get-even" potshots at GW, rather (no pun intended) than help the nation get throw this. More proof of what a severe mental disorder liberialism really is.
Approving what???
All I've heard so far from Bush is that:
S**t has happened. Now we will try to find out whos s**t it is. Is it cow s**t, horse s**t or just plain ol' bull s**t. After we find out exactly whos s**t it is, we'll clean it up.
Yep, guess it's rather easy to approve something as basic as cleaning up s**t.
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!
You must be a Hitlery or UpChuck Schumer staffer. Get lost sh!tweed.
prambo
I actually have a lot of confidence in his national security team.Great!
The only people whining about the "President's performance" are the left wing mediots who are offended that somebody as "dumb" as Bush beat Al Gore in the election.
The bottom line is, these snotty elitists on TV can't get over the fact that Bush is president, even in a time of national crisis.
This isn't some cheesey Bruce Willis movie, and how the President "performs" before the camera is completely irrelevant. Grow up.
Visions in a mirror do not qualify as "people around me"!
