That passengers have been able to phone out from these aricraft tells you such may have occurred on 800 and the gov decided to stop the flight (splash it) before the bigger disaster. The terrorists learned from that to choose a flight(s) that would be arriving at target quicker and made this attack. We may be seeing a few more of these attempts until we get the full truth, then we can actually start to work on the real problems ... with the whole truth that is. Yes, a Navy missle may have taken the 8oo flight down or an Airforce A to A.
